I can totally see the safety issue here, but replacing it with something inferior?

The pictures people are posting of the "supposed" new FOB do not have the trunk release button.. don't think they would leave those off the "real" replacement. I'll wait and see what they come up with before deciding if I'll trade in my current keys.

If that was the issue they may get a better response rate to the recall!

Because the mods are merging all the 100's of threads that have/will be started on this issue. When they merge them, the original text comes over.

same here. I don't think you have to do it... but if you ever have an issue/crash, GM's not at fault.

same time, any time your vehicle is at dealer you better remind them not to do it... cause sometimes they do recall work without asking.

Basically so they know where their new thread went. Cleanup to follow.

I've got 60K on my 2010 and have yet to have a problem with the key fob. I think I'll be fine for the next 60K.

Probably because its a Malibu, and the key is worth more than the car...J/K but that is a good question, I am sure they would sit as close to the steering wheel and ignition in that car as well. Maybe GM has to wait on Death to recall.

Seems like if I'm forced to get the key replaced, may look into this push to start system http://easygosystem.com/application_...plicationID=23
