Did I read somewhere on here that if a car get's built in limited quantities, it is CAFE exempt?

Will the Z28 subframes, TR6060 transmission and rear-end hold up to 550 ponies? These components will have to be hardened to avoid the hard launch issues that we are currently seeing with only 426 ponies on the SS LS3/M6, and that will raise the price considerably.
I am imagining they will use the same transmissions that are in the CTS-V (I dont know if they are the same as the Camaro or not) seeing as those will for sure handle the power.
A lot of parts are going to come from the CTS-V bin just because they are already developed and that will keep costs down would be my guess.

F-body has seen this, Corvette has seen this...you name it, it has happened. Every manufacturer does something like this to freshen up cars...heck, I'm sure that even a company like Smart has even done it.

It's one of the risks of going with a first year vehicle. I experienced this with my Trailblazer SS in 2006. When the '07's hit the street, GM had finally made the front and back seats match. My truck had full leather back seats with Alacantra and leather up front. The '07 had Alacantra/leather on both front and back. They also updated the rear wiper to look less goofy and made some minor tweaks to other items on the truck.

No reason to be upset if you've got a first year car...you were one of the first on the road and you got to enjoy the stardom and notoriety that those of us that will follow won't get to enjoy.
I gotcha man, true, true. I can't say I have buyer's remorse because I set out to get a fully loaded 2SS and have it outfitted the way I wanted it (striping, etc.) and that is precisely what I received. No problems, and to be honest, I don't know if I would have been prepared to spend another 15K on a Z-28 when they were released, which I'm sure will have worse gas mileage than the SS. I want a weekend car with great looks and good power. Not a track star. So in retrospect, I still think I made the right choice. What do you think the chances of people buying Z's are going to keep them for weekend cruises and light driving? What would the general purpose be for Z buyers?

I'll be happy with the SS when I finally have enough money for one, but this is definitely good news! Also interested in new info on the higher powered v-6 model.

For me, 3-4 days a week driver...especially if i change rear gears to 4.11 or 4.56

If Chevy keeps the car in the lower 40's price range my wife wont hurt me too bad plus leaves some money for other upgrades if needed!

Pretty good. Not everyone on here is a hardcore racer ( I know I'm not) and part of it would just be the bragging rights, even if you never tracked it once.

The GT500's start at $45k...

I would consider trading up if the price is right...I'm having trouble believing that GM would produce a Camaro with better performance than the base Vette. Also the price can't be higher than a base vette...im thinking Z28 starting price 42k.

To me this just means that I shouldn't go crazy with mods if I plan on trading in my Camaro (which I have yet to take delivery but its due next Friday.

Also... lets everyone NOT forget that they said they are going to possiblity start this car in a year... but remember once they start producing it could take up to ANOTHER year before your able to get one if you order it. Sooo.. then your looking at not having one to drive until close to 2012... so i say.. stick with the SS for 4 years and then u can get the Z28.
Nah. Think of it proportionally. They may have the same engine, but the CTS-V is still a Cadillac while the Camaro is still... well, a Camaro. A base 1SS starts at more or less 30K, right? And a base CTS starts at around 36K.

If the CTS-V starts at $59,000, then a Z28 will probably start around $48,000. Its competition afterall is the GT500 which is roughly around that price range.

At 45K plus it better handle better than it does....It would be nice if they came out with a lighter model with less options.

2012 might work perfectly. The wife has been wanting a Camaro too so I get the SS now and in a couple years, give her the SS and trade the Malibu on a Z-28. Win win!
