So pedders and lpe think the zl1 is the best car to mod, well well guess us SS guys need to find a new vendor or two huh. What vendors have more faith in the SS then the zl1?

I am sorry you doubt us. I started supporting this community in 2007 before the 5th gen was available. Outside of GM, no one company has done more to support the 5th Gen Camaro community than Pedders.

These are the realities of upgrading the performance of a 5th Gen SS
Brakes are expensive
Drive shafts are expensive
Differentials are expensive
Transmissions are expensive

Price out high quality aftermarket components as listed. Depending on which brands you choose the cost is $7,000 or more. This is BEFORE we start talking RWHP. Then there are other smaller modifications found in the ZL1 such as the placement of the endlink mounts in the lower rear arms that will make the rear bar more efficient and help reduce understeer. We should be able to buy the ZL1 arms for the other 5th Gen models, but we are spending more money adding to the list.

GM didn't just slap a badge on the new model and call it a ZL1. They engineered a better 5th Gen. This doesn't disrespect the SS or any other 5th Gen model. It is continuous product development and the signature of a quality company. We do the same thing at Pedders. We don't sell the same product today that we started with on the 5th gen and will be selling further refined and enhanced products a year from now.

If you want to find another vendor, that is your choice. I suggest you do so based on reasons other than a perceived slight or doubts about my support of the ENTIRE 5th Gen range.

I think anyone would be hard pressed to make the same car for anywhere near what GM is going to do it for.
EXACTLY. This is why I haven't completely put the ZL1 out of my mind. It may be more cost-effective to trade the SS in a couple years than to dump $ into beefing it up... Besides, the ZL1 just looks SICK

$47,000 or so would be a good fair price. My concern is if the dealers mark up the price to $55,000 or more. This would kill the movement forward in Camaro ZL1 sales, for it would be outpriced for many people wanting to drive this car. I am sitting back and waiting till March 2013 at the earilest in purchasing either a 2012 model or May 2013 for a 2013 model. Hopefully by the time the new of the car will wear off and the price will even out where it should be. Also waiting allows other buyers to either praise or condem the car over its possible short comings. Lucky I am a very patient man, I can wait. If the price is too sky high, might as well look at a slightly used Z06 vette!

GM has already announced that they will not limit the production of the ZL1 and will make as many as thier is a demand for them. If the dealers in your area get greedy, check outside your local area, or wait a few months for the sales of the ZL1 to cool down.
I've already made a deposite with my dealer for a ZL1 at MSRP and have purchased cars from them in the past. The last time I spoke to my chevy dealer they had like 8 pre orders or more verts at the MSRP price. I may go by on Sunday just to see if they have any to look at (verts.).
As far as a guese on the price I'm thinking for the most basic ZL1, will be around $48,995 but not even GM knows the starting price yet.

Well said. I did a little rough estimate on what it would cost to mod an SS to be comparable to what the ZL-1 offers and it would be at least ~15k . If you start with a 2SS at 35k, the ZL-1 at ~50k would be a steal while still offering a full factory warranty.

I thought I remembered you posting in the past that you were not totally for the magnetic ride going on the ZL-1.

What are your thoughts on this?

Guessing the Price is just like guessing the name of the new package (ZL1)... you will most likely be wrong.

Just talked to my dealer. They will sell the car at MSRP and Honor the $750 USAA Discount. In addition, I asked them about the trade-in value of my 2010 2SS/RS with polished wheels and sunroof, heritage grill, stripes, 4.10 gear and ADM cam, he would allow 30K (that was first offer, I probably could get 30,500-31,000). Thats not that bad, considering I would save $2700 in taxes. Of course, the ZL1 is 12 months away...

Looking at the prices that are charged for the SLP ZL cars I find it difficult to believe that the ZL1 will be anywhere near 50 grand. I think the price will be more like 60 grand or higher. You cant find a supercharged SLP ZL car for less than 65 grand. The ZL454 is going for 50 grand. With all the other improvements the ZL1 will have over the SLP cars like MR, I find it hard to believe that this car will be affordable for most folks. It will be Corvette money for sure. I really want to buy something like this but I too am going to wait until this thing comes out and the dust settles. I have a feeling that a well cared for used ZO6 will be a much better deal. I would prefer a car with 4 seats though. I have always been a camaro guy but if this thing is priced like I think it is then the GT500 is going to be a much better deal to me.

See, and that is why they better be priced competitvely with the GT500.
If they are not, then you are a perfect example as to why GM would be making a big mistake.

Gm has done bone head things before. Look at what they did to the camaro from 2003 to 2009. Im sad to say that I don't have a lot of hope that they will do the right thing. I have a feeling that I will be looking at GT500s next year. I hope I am wrong.

Personally my first reaction was that $47k was too low to be true. Every other Camaro model is more expensive than the corresponding Mustang, I assume that will hold true in that this will cost more than the GT500.

My personal hope is that a ZL1 with suede interior and automatic transmission will be less than $60k out the door. I expect the starting price to be about $50k and I figure the suede interior and auto will cost another $4k-$5k combined.
There is no automatic for the ZL1 Camaro.......................
