I was suggesting to my friend to consider putting dual oil coolers where the brake cooling openings are. Two custom shrouded air to oil coolers in those places may do the trick, or may not as there's not a lot of room. The air could pass through the oil coolers and then also cool those big CCBs.

I just called LG Motorsports, they are working on a solution but it's not out yet. Lingenfelter is supposedly working on one too, but nothing on their website yet.

Sorry for the hijack.
No hijack there its good discussion. I believe its constraints as well, probably more than just a few constraints to be honest. With the amount of heat management that needs to be dealt with, clean air from the front is at premium. Efficiency also becomes a problem when you start stacking a radiator, AC condenser, trans cooler, oil cooler(s), supercharger core, all into that air path. There’s a fine line and a point of diminishing return, if they even get a return and I’m sure they know that. Perhaps that’s why it is the way it is. But all of that except the AC can be put into a single heat exchange system where a properly sized radiator manages all of the heat. They’re starting to do this, seen in the Z28/ZL1 diff/trans system and the miniature oil to water system. They just need to expand on it and create a capable system. The nice thing about a heat exchanger is it doesn’t need airflow and can be mounted virtually anywhere there is enough space.

Running a 700 HP LS7 based motor with an automatic transmission we use a large Fluidyne oil cooler, a larger transmission cooler and a C&R Racing drop in aluminum radiator with a 160* thermostat. This configuration keep everything cool and I mean everything. On the last mid 80s day we ran the water never went higher than 214 degrees and the oil stayed in the 240 degree range.

We'll be replacing the tow hook with a strap to save weight and thee bumper bar with a tubular bar over the winter.

Pete, that's definitely an awesome setup for sure. I won't need to get that crazy, still running mostly stock.

whoever said that the air is at a premium nailed it. the launch manager for this car said that the aero drag numbers are almost at a negative number over almost the whole car, especially the front. there is almost no place tp get air from. they do overheat terribly. a friend of mine in a novice group at NCM could overheat his steering and his oil in less than two hot laps. they have a redneck fix for the steering and its just ducting air to stuff. that only buys a little time though. they will get it figured out. they have to. they were messing around at Milford the pother day and this engine will make 800 HP no problem. so newer platforms will be making even more HP. they will get it figured out im sure.

I like some of the elements I'm seeing on the 2016 SS. May borrow these ideas for my setup. The smaller radiators on each side, which vent into the wheel well, remind me of the setup in Orange Crush 1LE - still my favorite approach, instead of mounting in front of the AC condenser and radiator.

just a lil walk through memory lane...

When the facelift 2014+ first came out, I inquired about my concern on operating temps due due to the smaller openings, and was basically ignored and mocked.

Now Helloooo C7 Z06...

Back to the discussion.

From the Gen6 owners manual for the LT1 in the track use section:

6.2L (LT1) Engine
Change the engine oil to 0W-40 or 5W-40 that meets the dexos2TM specification. If this oil is not available, the following oils can be used as an alternative: Valvoline® SYNPOWER MST 5W-40, Mobil® 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40.

Dexos2! Mobil1 ESP!

Assuming that the 'TM' part of that spec name is the way the 'trademark' symbol copied/pasted, the list of dexos2-licensed oils is quite a bit longer.

I couldn't find a 2016 Camaro Owner Manual online, so I'm a little puzzled why it would be dexos2 when the LT1 in the 2016 Corvette apparently gets dexos1. Dexos1 is supposedly for gasoline engines only and dexos2 is for either gasoline or diesel.

I think its the same for the Corvette LT1: Dexos 1 for street and Dexos 2 for track in the US. The European manual requires Dexos2 or ACEA C3 for standard driving for the LS3 and LT1.

I think you are right. I have seen cooling cited as the for reason for keeping the ZL1 front end unchanged for '14.

It will be interesting how the 6th Gen Camaro deals with these heat issues if they make a LT4 version.....

Finally on the correct continent for more mods. Giant oil cooler is back ordered so starting with the gauges, oil temp and pressure. Pod cost $5.99 and free shipping on ebay. Not paying $100 for the same thing.
