Well, got a leak in the differential after the 3.45 gears were put in. We'll figure that out but man, is the oil all over the rear of the car. Got some cleaning to do first to id where it's coming from. Looks like the seals. Oh, well, gotta pay to play...

Sounds like the old Saginaw 10 and 12 bolts GM used for a hundred years... if it wasn't covered with oil it was empty... lol

Fix it and get back at it man... lol

Yep, just waiting to see what the next steps are. Sh** happens so that's the name of that tune ;o)...

Trying to find out if the seals were replaced or not. Seems that would be done when doing the differential gears -- since the seals total around $20+ for all three (for the 2011 2SS non SC and I'm 400 miles away), but I don't know yet..

I think an accomplishment like this requires celebration at the location of your choice Don. Text or PM me with some ideas and I'll get the ball rolling.

Well, I think this one is going to be more than seals. Working though that now.

I'll keep everyone posted...

OK, started on the removal of the differential. Jacked up the rear of the car as high as I could and removed the exhaust.

First I removed the muffler delete (so I could have more room):

Didn't take that long -- about 10 minutes. I first removed the hanger that was holding on the exhaust tip and then removed the j-pipe. Once those were off, I was able to remove the muffler delete.

Have a set of new magnaflows from JDP (awesome deal) so these are going bye-bye ;o). Also have a new JacFab no-drill license plate to install -- that thing is SWEET!

Next, I removed the x-pipe/resonator off of the rubber mounts near the differential. I then removed the well brace that was covering the exhaust (bag n tagged the bolts) and mark driver's side of the brace. Once that was removed I used a jack to hold up the exhaust and removed the clamps from the rear of the cats. Just pushed back and off it came -- put aside for later modification (for the magnaflows):

Next, draining the fluid -- pretty nasty on the drain plug after only 400 miles:

Fluid that was left in the differential:

I'm getting an un-easy feeling about this. Won't know until I get the differential down and open it up, but kind-of worried...

More to come...

OK differential is out. I believe the big piece of metal I found was from the castings in the housing. Found one spot that looks like it came off during install of the gears. Pinion and Ring look good -- no chips. Spyder gears, from what I could see, look fine too -- didn't hear any kind of 'grinding' from the bearings.

Here are some shots of the inside:

Now, this was something that should be replaced and then, knocked down into the pinion (the pinion nut):

Appears none of the seals were replaced nor, a new gasket (no new silicone it appears either). That may be normal -- but this is the second time this was opened up, so I think caution (and the fact I drove 400 miles each way) would warrant some 'safety' factor as a precaution -- I don't mine paying for that if need be...

According to the manual, the pinion nut must be replaced and notched into the pinion shaft -- this one (above) does not look like that happened:

After inspection, cleaned the inside (just with towels and no cleaner) and then covered up my work...

I'm not feel'n like this one was up to GPI's standards. I'm confident Ryan will make it right -- he is an honest and upright person (no, he did not do this job)...

Now with this out, I'll be able to clean the oil. I think, to make install easier, I'll probably have to undo the right wheel and do the removal just like I did on the left -- we'll see, it was a lot easier to drop following this guide:
