UGH!!! What you are describing is what I have also experienced. Accept the grinding was more intermittent on mine. Almost unpredictable whereas yours looks like it is every shift. I am sure my weather is probably a tad warmer then yours so maybe that is part of it. Has your brake/clutch fluid changed color to that rust color? Mine only has 2500 miles and the fluid looks good thus far. In the meantime you can always take the train... I hear its last stop is in Clarksville! DOH!!!

My second and third gears are notchy (especially when cold) but they never grind.

My only problem is that at high RPMs I CAN NOT shift into 5th gear. The car locks me out of it !!!! Keep in mind that I'm not driving the car in an overly aggressive manner, I'm not taking it up to the redline or even close to it!!

It's so frustrating !!! I have 12,000 miles on the car and it just started doing this about 1000 miles ago!

Anyone of you guys have experienced this?

Before I even bought my Camaro, I test drove one which did exactly that. I guess they expect people to REALLY love it enough . . .

Yea, I had the 5th gear problem also, along with notchy 2nd and 3rd! So far with the new trans everything seems OK but I've only had a couple of 1 hour outings with it. Time will tell!

Also heard Royal Purple was approved for them to use - it helped mine alot, but didn't go away totally.
Where did you hear that from?

I'm not saying I agree with what GM is doing to us, just telling you how to work around their system to get your car fixed. I had to do it, took about two months but I got my second gear repaired. Just trying to help everyone get thru the GM bs.

A Chevrolet mechanic.... in addition - the Loveland, Colorado dealer even stocks it and they told me last summer that it wouldn't void the warranty (per the service manager). Maybe it's one of those "depends on the dealer" things? I'll have to inquire if there's documentation to back it up..... like a TSB. Definitely makes for smoother shifts.

Thanks! Yea, it may be a dealer thing but I'd like to see a statement or something from GM to that effect!

+1 The transmission technician I talked to told me that in some vehicles (late model Chevrolets and Fords), that the manufacturers actually have their own custom blend transmission oil (automatic and manual) and by using an off brand would indeed void the warranty if anything failed. I know that my wife's Jetta's transmission uses a form of mineral oil!! That fluid was $80+ a quart! You cannot use anything else, so it makes sense the same would hold true for the Camaro. I still want to put in my Royal Purple!!!

I put Royal Purple in my rearend and Mobil1 tranny oil in my Trans. Mobil1 was alot cheaper and is supposed to be as good.
