Padre, was it worth Removing the front sway bar? I wonder if anyone has broke into the 11's on stock tires with just bolt ons?

It was worth not putting on a tighter aftermarket front sway bar.

The stock is fine for drag racing (I was running pretty well before I did the suspension mods), but it's worth a try to disconnect the stock front sway bar.

I doubt it will improve your times, but ditching mine made it more consistent and less prone to too much spin on launch.

As for your build, try the stock tires, but once you go TC, traction will be a real concern.

But you can only try.

That's a good question... we have one guy here who's running consistent 11.8X w/ DRs. Would be cool to try some runs on stockers for grins.

Well here's my thoughts: this was the first time to the drag strip for me in years. I didn't do too bad. Given a Lil more practice I think I can squeeze another tenth out of it with out doing anything. I'm still wanting to get the hp tuners and when I do I think that I can squeeze another tenth or two out of it with a tune for my car instead of just a generic tune like I have. So that puts me in the twelve teen to twelve-o range... If I can keep it hooking. That's why I was thinking about removing the front sway bar. That would be awesome to break into the 11's with stock tires and bolt ons. I think it's possible. Will I have the patience to do it without going into the motor? Only time will tell. I'm getting cam antsy. Lol

Padre, what is your timing set at? I might go run by my tuner and set it the same as yours was. I see you added one degree and had a nice gain...what amount was it the engine liked?

Go for it. See what you can do the rest of the season and then think about cam in the Spring.

Here you go, this is the range for WOT:
Name: timing001.jpg
Views: 721
Size: 52.4 KB

Note how it drops to 20* at peak torque. This is where you are most likely to get Knock Reduction. Also keep in mind that during a run, it's operating in the 3800-6200 range because of the shifts at WOT.

When I used one can of Torco to 5 gallons on a cool night (low 60's), I added one degree of timing safely. I was going to add two but the track went to pot.

Would you mind explaining a little bit of what the air mass is? I got the wife talked into letting (lol) me get the hp tuners software, but looking at that graph....it's a little daunting not knowing what it means

I went talked to my tuner and he said my timing is as high as he will put it. He said its in the 24-25* range. Which I'll agree, it's high enough. I didn't drive my car to work today but he said when I bring it to him we can do some data logs and make sure it's not pulling timing and see what my air fuel is. The guys at thunder racing had already heard what my car ran the first time out and they are anxious to help me attain my bolt on goal of 11.99 or quicker. I'm gonna bring it there sometime this week and see what's what.

OK, here we go:

+48/+11 ... about what I was expecting.

Note for the dyno numbers:
- both runs were with TC locked.
- both STD corrected (SAE is about -5hp).
- 376 run was with 18" rims and DR's.
revved to 6200
- 424 run was with stock 20x9 and 275's.
revved to 6800.

So I imagine you know I work with Omar, right? Lol. We were talking about sonnys car the other day as a matter of fact. I know I can do it with a convertor, but at the moment I'm having some issues hooking it. I don't want to add to my problem and go slower you know? I got some nittos on the way, removing the front sway, I'm hooking up a fan switch this week and mike at thunder is gonna tweak my tune. We think we can get a tad more out of it. I'm hoping to get in the 11's with no convertor. If it won't do it without the stall then so be it. But I'm gonna try my darnedest!

You should get your 11 sec slip now! Ima guess 11.60@ 117. Good luck!

Wow....I was pretty close! Hit the mph dead on. Lol. Good job. You'll get some 60's and maybe some 50's out of it. Pssst.....maybe try some long tubes. If you don't pick up any....we can lay the long tune thing to rest.
