Could it be that keeping the RPM's low is effecting mileage? Is it not working as efficiently as it could at the below 2K rpm's?
Could be, but I wouldn't depend on it. Carbureted old-tech doesn't always respond the same as the latest direct injected technology.

FWIW, my VW gets huge gains from lower RPM, but my GMC responds better to letting it rev up a bit.

It's not safe to drive on underinflated tires. The inflation pressure posted on the car is the minimum, to be measured when the tire hasn't been driven recently (cold). The only time it's safe to run lower than that is if you've lightened the car a LOT, are not driving at highway speed, or sometimes if you've put on significantly larger tires (not something anyone would do on a Camaro).

Had to correct that. People do strange things to cars ...

A bit disappointed

Just as so many have been writing, I am a bit disappointed that after 700 miles I am averaging 15.8 mpg around town. I do not have a heavy foot though I am no slouch either. What do you all think? Problem or just deal with it-it's a Camaro

I just did a around town loop drive, resetting the MPG at the start. after a 15 mile trip, with 10 miles of stop and go driving from 30 to 55 mph and 5 miles Interstate at 55 mph my DIC shows 22 MPG, that is with 350 miles on the odometer. oh and i was driving in sport mode and not babying it.

Good fuel economy is nice but come on not one of us got Camaro for the fuel economy other wise we all would be driving a Prius.

Yeah but the gas milage difference between the v6 and v8 is what gets people to choose between v8 or v6

Purchase price, insurance cost, and slightly better weight distribution are other cited reasons.

Besides, just because you bought a Camaro doesn't necessarily mean you have no reason to try to save gas. I'm sure some people put on lots of miles where they're not having fun no matter what they're driving; might as well not waste money on those miles. Then when it's time to have fun they abandon their fuel economy concern.

I was looking for an attractive, sporty two door coupe to replace my gas guzzling 4X4 truck. I did not go with a Corvette again (I had a 1998 that I sort of just quit driving). I looked at the Mustang, Challenger, Camaro, and G37. I went with the Camaro for the following reasons in order of preference:

(1) gas mileage (Camaro was the best)
(2) styling (Camaro, Challenger, G37 are all beautiful)
(3) cost (Camaro gave more for the money)
(4) luxury (G37 is way more expensive)
(5) performance (304hp was just a bonus)

Its the balance of fuel economy and performance. If the Camaro were rated at 12/20 there would be a lot fewer sales, particularly after the diehards get their car.

With a 130 daily commute to work, if it got 25 mph or so epa on the hwy, I wouldn't have bought it.
Damn I love this Camaro

I traded in a Chevy Aveo and I was used to very high mpg. I've lusted after the body of the Camaro ever since concept and I think I would have bought one eventually - even if it had "typical" muscle car mpg.

The fact it has such a high mpg rating in combination with the power and reasonable price "accelerated" my purchasing one as I was able to justify it more readily.

I was very close to buying a Saab 9-3 turbo. I had tried an M6 SS previously (didn't like it, too expensive for me). Test drove an A6 LT (didn't like it, though maybe after break-in I'd have liked it more). Test drove an M6 LS (loved it right off the bat... Saab who?)

Just finished a highway trip from the proving grounds (96/696) and I got 24mpg leaning pretty heavy on the gas pedal. 29-30 is easy when following the recommended speed signs posted on the side of the road.
