Took the salesperson past 130 on the test drive the night I picked it up. I was on my way to Havasu for the weekend and picked it up Friday night. Made record time there and back. Very stable at 140 and all the way to the limiter. Limiter is not as harsh as other cars I have topped out. This car is in its element between 135-145 in my opinion.

U- Up to 124mph
H- Up to 130mph

IMO The max MPH your Camaro can do at the end of a quarter mile track is as fast as you need to go.

Just makes sense to me...
You are mistaken.
The 20" tires on the SS Camaros are as follows:
245/45ZR20 with a 103Y service rating
275/40ZR20 with a 106Y service rating
The Y in the service rating gives the tires a sustained speed
rating of 186 mph. That means you can drive steady at 186 mph without
excessive heat buildup.

I've had my Camaro up to 161 going across Wyoming and it stuck
like glue, didn't get light or squirrely.
If I hadn't come up behind traffic, I would have gone much faster.
I had just shifted into 5th gear at 158 mph.

I believe GM limited the Camaro to 155mph to save lives. They didn't want crazy people doing
170mph in stock Camaros.

A stock Camaro SS is definately capable of 165-170 mph (with limiter removed).
LOL the difference between 155 and 170 mph is minimal. They will still be identifying you by dental records when they clean up whats left of you.

They probably set the limiter due to aerodynamics as a car designed to be stable up to 150 mph can be quite different than a car designed to be stable up to 200....

I've heard people are hitting the governed speed of 155 in 4th gear, so it could go pretty damn fast.

Not a problem for SRT8's so i see it being no problem for SS's. I still had room for more and couldve topped out at 180 for sure.

I've hit 146mph in mine, letting the auto do the work. It shifted into 6th at that speed and speed dropped to 142mph. In manual mode, leaving the car in 5th, I believe there is at least 150mph in it, the car was still pulling when it shifted. I didn't take note of the rpms though at the time of the shift, dang it.

Maybe after all this rain leaves, I'll give it another go!!

What happens in Wyoming and Nevada you guys get pulled over doing 150+? You go straight to jail or a ticket!!

I’d hate for a Georgia State Patrol to pull me over doing that speed! They probably approach the car with the guns out thinking I’m on crack or something!!

Also, don’t try this at Camaro5Fest!! Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department looks like a team of Line Backers. They are Georgia’s first defense for drugs coming out of Florida and had their hands full back in the 80’s and 90’s. They had many appearances on the Cops TV show.

when I was living over in Sweden I took my 05 GTO down to Germany, with only a tune I hit 179mph (GPS) and the car handled great at that speed. I have had my Camaro up to 166, but I am going to a standing mile event Nov 14th and hoping to hit 170+ in the mile. But that's with H/C/I, full exhaust and tuned.

At 166 the Camaro was very stable, but the rear end was a bit nervous under acceleration at higher speeds so after the springs went in I had an alignment done with a bit more toe-in in the rear which helped out a lot. The long wheelbase this cars have helps out a lot at these kind of speeds to keep the car stable. Obviously lowering the car helps as well to keep air out from under the car.

These cars are actually really good at high speeds, remember that the GTO was partially developed in Australia where the main road that goes across country is more or less free speed. You can cruise along for hours doing 130+!

Governed because of the tires? surely the tires on this are good for over 155.
