No work on the pool today. But we are told most of the holes will be backfilled tomorrow. We will eventually have a pergola built on the sunny side of the pool, but my entire back yard is shaded in the evening. We have to be very careful what we plant around the pool so the foliage does not end up in the pool. We do have a Magnolia tree in the side yard, and I am sure those leaves will end up in the pool.

There will be a 2' wide deck surrounding the pool. We'll probably plant a couple of Pygmy Palms on either side of the pool near the house, but no other plans as of now. I have to get inspired.

It would seem my supervisor has had enough of me asking off early on some days (2 so far)to transport my wife to a doctor appointment and is upset I have not put in any overtime in 4 weeks. It's amazing, after explaining my situation 4 weeks ago, and what to expect, what I can and can do, and when I "should" be able to return to normalcy, that supervisor has forgotten all of this. I was forced to remind said supervisor today.

Sounds like you should file for FMLA. You can take it an hour at a time and they are not allowed to penalize you in any way for FMLA time taken. I is a little bit of a PITA to file foe as you will need to get her doctor to sign it but worth it.

Good morning. I am still tired. I am starting to see clearly that not having my exercise class it taking a toll on me. I know I am putting on weight. I have not gotten on the scale but can see & feel it especially in my tummy. I can feel it in my reduced lung capacity and have been having some irregular heart rhythms & numbness in my arms I have done some searching on line for options but have not found anything yet. I have to figure something out. It is impacting me emotionally to. I just feel down in the dumps.

HAGD all.

Ruby, please get checked out soon. Females have different symptoms then men when it is about heart issues. "reduced lung capacity and have been having some irregular heart rhythms & numbness in my arms". These are all warning signs for a pending heart attack so make an appointment with your doctor ASAP for a full physical.

Today had to move my Riviera & Camaro outdoors because my underground parking garage is getting its annual power wash to get rid of all the nasty winter salt & dirt dust. Good because I can get the cars washed (both white) but in a day of being parked start to get a film of sticky gray stuff. However, each year for 3 years, it rained the day of the garage wash so both dusty cars will be spotted and covered with spring tree leaves before I move them back into the garage. That means I will have to get the Camaro washed Wed. as I have my twice monthly diner with a group of car guys and they want to hear the new exhaust. Saturday morning will have to wash the Riviera because I plan on parking it at an annual car show in downtown Ottawa.

Appropriate for the old farts thread: Made an appointment with a cosmetic surgeon for June 12. Issue, neck lift. In the last 4 years getting that slack skin neck look. Lucky in some respects I always looked much younger then physical age. In mid 80s, serious car accident resulted in eyes, nose, and brow lift because I was almost scalped when the roof of my auto peeled back and hit me on top of head. Still look years younger than my current 63 due to some excellent reconstructive stuff back in the 1980s. However, the loose neck now starting to show my age. I am a college professor, plan to continue teaching until about age 70. Years ago read a research study where students rated the younger looking prof, with less experience, better than the older prof with more experience. I have dealt with this issue of age and appearance my entire career in the design industry. I admit my design career benefited in the past when I was younger because of personal appearance. And yes, being sexual available was a factor in getting ahead in the NYC design community. But fact is when I hit 40, looked 32, my options as a high end interior designer in NYC became limited due to my age. Sorry to say it was very hard for me to break into the high end of NYC design firms because I was from the 'South', had what some called a soft southern accent. Having a soft southern accent in NYC back in the 1980s - 90s indicated I was not refined. I proved the naysayers wrong as my high end clients loved my tell it like it is southern attitude. During my career had to overcome age, orientation, and heritage discrimination. But fought the stereotypes my entire adult years and prevailed.

I now have job security as a prof and can work until the day I die. But if I can knock off a few years on personal appearance, fact is students will consider me more creditable.

A few weeks ago I was on a committee to hire some new full time professors. On the committee, one prof, in her early 40s, said she wanted new staff to be in their 30s, energetic, social media connected. No one else on the committee objected. I am an energetic 63 year old, media smart prof that continually receives excellent reviews from my students. So why must any new hire be in their 30s? I then notified the college I recused myself from the committee because of age discrimination. Sad but true age discrimination still exists. College went nuts when I recused myself from the hiring committee. This old fart is still energetic, social media aware, and I am old enough not to keep my mouth shut when I see/hear blatant discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, or orientation.

Sad but true I first experienced age discrimination in my 40s and nothing has changed now that I am in my 60s. Do not have to pay serious big bucks for a neck lift to keep my current job but disappointed both young and older people still relate age and physical appearance more important than knowledge and experience.

Sorry for the long post, just need to vent.

Vent away, length of vents do not matter to us.

Yes, I have noticed age discrimination in my workplace too. Our current corporate environment is one of "you are lucky we let you work here", which surfaced about five years ago. Prior to this change, it was a wonderful place to work, and I suspect one day it will return to that. But until then, I'll just keep my mouth shut because I tell it like it is, no matter how wonderful or painful the truth is.

I won't go into details, as I do not want to sound like I hate having a job. It's not about having a job, it's about working on a level playing field.

Jan, please get yourself checked out. And start walking around the neighborhood if you cannot go to your classes.

Thanks a lot for the concern guys. I do go to my doctor regularly. I know women's symptoms are different. My mother "just felt tired & got easily winded" when she went to her doctor & ended up having to have triple bypass surgery. I just had a lifescan fairly recently & it did show some plaque build-up but no cause for concern. I also had a chest X-Ray just because my mother also had very little in the way of symptoms before she got her diagnosis of terminal lung cancer (and never smoked). I am monitoring it closely & will go back before my next regularly scheduled check-up if needed.

BTW abaucom21 I know what you mean about the age & apperance thing. I work with the public and clients just won't trust you and continue coming for service if you don't look young & healthy. The parents usually don't say anything but those preschoolers do not pull any punches. They will ask questions or say something about ANYTHING! I just answer them and don't let on that it bothers me..............but it does. I am lucky to have good genes & look younger than my age but it is starting to catch up with me When we sell my dad's mini farm & I get the $ for my lot that I decided not to build on.........................well, I have a few plans too. Nothing drastic but just need a little maintainence.

Music, memories, and a smile:

Today a friend sent me a link for something. Watched the link and scrolled down. Then found a music video that brought back happy memories and made me smile.

Picture this: 1963, I was 11 in my little suite and tie, vacation with my parents on Miami Beach and staying at the Flontainbleau Hotel, ocean front. We were driving in our new 1963 T-Bird with windows down. I can still smell the salt air. Coming from a restaurant where I ate my first lobster. Parents had about six martinis (it was the 60s!). The AM radio cranked high and Mom had a pretty good voice and sang along. Back in the day my parents could get wild and crazy and took me along on the ride.

When I hear this song from the Crystals it reminds me of a happy time with my parents cruising Miami Beach in our new 1963 T-Bird. The memory and music made me smile today so thought I would pass it on.

Have to laugh at this. Proper Air Force colonel Dad, ex model Mom, six martinis and me the little kid in the back seat and we were all singing along with the 'Crystals'!

One more day of watering the gunite three times a day. Work was to progress yesterday and today, but no one came. When they announce they are coming, they don't. When they don't announce they are coming, they show up. So it appears no one will be showing up this week.

What I remember most from that video clip is doing some of the dance moves of the Go Go dancers in the background (mostly from the early part of the video, they get a little out there with their moves as it goes on). But, yeah, I remember that song too. Nice memory you have there to cherish.

Good morning. It is going to be a hot & muggy day today awaiting storms moving in this evening. So far CMA fest has not so far caused too much trouble for my commute other than heaver than usual traffic but the week is not over yet & the biggest events start today. A huge concert event is today starting at 11:00 AM so there will be ore road closings & tons of lost pedestrians.

I heard from my tuner yesterday. It has taken longer than expected to get moved into & set-up at his new shop but he said to contact him next week to set up a time for my headers & sway bars installation & my tune. Wooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally! It feels like an eternity I have been working on getting this done. It has been like 8 months of planning, buying & waiting. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Have a good day crew.
