If you see my dyno sheets, with everything stock we were at about 560 rwhp on a dynojet. Once I added headers and CAI we were up to about 590 rwhp. So about a 30hp gain. Does this give you an idea of the difference? |

What other mods are you doing? Are you doing headers as well? Hold on and we will get you a better answer. The more I think about it, the 3.875 pulley may give you too much with no other mods. I'm at 8psi peaking up to 10 at very high rpm. We will see how we're doing after final tuning. |

The system really isn't that complicated and has been used for years. There are many reputable shops and forum members that swear by it. I'll try it. If it becomes an issue, I'll remove it. |

I can`t remember, which CAI are you using on your setup? I know you guys tried several. Did the car idle properly after the CAI install? Whipple seems to think it won`t run right w/ a CAI until you custom tune it. I think thats because they are so used to the Ford aftermarket CAI guys adding the larger diameter intake tubing on CAI`s throwing the MAF off. Our GM`s already have large tubing and larger tubing is not needed on most builds. So if the intake tubing diameter at the MAF is the same size as stock then In my opinion and a certain other shop owners opinion it should run fine at idle and part throttle w/ Whipple`s canned tune. I don`t beleive Whipple has even tried any CAI w/ their kit and are just trying to be safe. But maybe you could ask Tim to see if he had and drivabilty issues, w/ idle and part throttle driving? If so I would appreceate it. I want to be able to drive the car to the dyno after I install everything for the custom tune. Of course no WOT runs...Lol.. Another caveat to this that may help you or others is what a buddy of mine experienced on his 4th gen build. A little background on the car, its a NA setup built 402 stepped headers and true dual 2.5 inch exhaust no cats that was custom fabricated. He put down 523rwhp to the tire thru the exhaust. He added cutouts and with them open it put down 561rwhp. So seeing as how we are in that power range w/ this kit 550-650rwhp depending on setup it would seem to me the 2.5 inch axlebacks are going to become a restriction. Thats why I recently added the Magnaflow 3 inch catback. I already had the ARH 1 7/8 headers and high flow catted x-pipe. However, I did not use the magnaflow x-pipe and tied the connection pipes into my ARH 3 inch x-pipe. It can be had for around 900 bucks, lot of specials running on it. Just food for thought.

[QUOTE=old motorhead;2296907]WOW....you guys are putting together the perfect gen V. MAD props to you! I really have to wonder why you're fooling with a meth system though. I know the myriad benefits, but dang....don't you, at some point, try to symplify things a bit? At some point along the journey, don't you really want to just drive the snot out of that thing without having to worry about whether your meth system is kicking in at just the right time (or how much meth is in the tank....or if the system is even working properly)? If you tune it to just make everything "safe", there's no reason to fool with it in my book.
I agree with old motorhead. I have seen two over 1000hp Camaros, several 850hp Camaros and CTS-V's, and more than I can remember blown 800hp cars here in DFW area built by ADM Perf. Guess what, NO METH and safe tunes. Some factory stock motors and others built. The KISS philosophy is what "old motorhead" and I agree on. Keep It Simple. On this Whipple build at this time the meth is overkill for now. However, I really like what is going down on this build in EVERY other way excluding the meth.

Can you post some pics of the Roto-fab CAI installed with the Whipple? We typically gain about 35HP with Maggie equipped cars, so I am curious what just the intake would have done over stock for this application. It doesn't sound like we will find out on this particular car though!

You guys make a valid point and i agree that METH is NOT nessesary for this build. But i also agree that a new clutch or new axels is NOT nessesary. But they would have benefits. Kind of like the METH kit. i personally see the benefits as a no brainer, and a useful mod. weather or not its NEEDED is besides the point. Headers and CAI are not needed, but no one is complaining... Great job on the build journal, keep the info comming!

personally i like the fact of using Meth, not the drug lol. it has so many benefits. so u have to check it regularly, eh its part of regular maintenance imo. just like checking ur oil, coolant, tire pressure, blinker fluid, and ever so pesky muffler bearings. |
