It will be hard for me to buy it without an auto since I will use it for rush hour driving.
Please GM list'n to your customers and offer it as an option. What is good for nascar is good for me

Without reading all the posts, if the same basic drivetrain is in the CTS then I really don't see a reason why GM won't offer an auto in the ZL1. I've been criticized in the past for buying pony cars with auto trans, but it's my money and I hate rowing the boat in traffic. I haven't been following this forum because I thought the ZR1 would only be a manual trans and I won't even consider buying with one unless it's an auto. GM will be making a big mistake if they can put the auto in this car and choose not to.

An Automatic is good but change the placement of the tapshift, put it on the shifter.

The 1969 ZL1 was available as an automatic, so why not have the 2012 ZL1 available as an automatic?
I personally will be purchasing a manual ZL1, but Chevrolet will probably be limiting the potential pool of ZL1 buyers if an automatic is not available for those who want one. |

I would personally never buy one with an automatic but I think alot of people would. Just like Vettes. I would never buy one in auto but alot of the old men that drive them like auto.

hmm I resemble that comment, but truthfully as you get older the knees start to ach a bit more, esp when you were into sports at a younger age. But that being said even if its a manual I'll probably still buy the ZL1, since this will be my weekend fun car and not a daily driver. An automatic just makes more sence for some drivers, and performance wise their's not much of a trade off like thier was in the 70's. My 20 year old is already drooling about inheriting my car latter on. I got news for him It's going to the grave with me and I plan on haunting him with some late night driving. Man I love the sound of that exhaust! |

I can't see an economic reason for GM not offer a auto in the ZL1, the CTS-V offers an automatic. The durablity and programing of the 6L90E would be the same as it would be in the Cadillac or it would just a tweek, not like GM is putting the 6L90E behind the LS9. It would be an attractive option for the person who wants the performance without the ability/hassle of driving a manual.
I live in Los Angeles and there is very few places with worse traffic, driving a manual is easier than my automatic equipped vehicles in heavy traffic (IMHO). Driving a manual in heavy traffic does require a specfic style that makes it less work, most Americas are horrid drives and find it easier to text/use cell phone/put on make up/eat/read in an automatic vehicle. Now for me it is manual only.......you know what a Corvette with an automatic is? A production line mistake....hee hee (jk). |

I would think everyone knows that the auto ctsv ran faster in the quarter than the manual.
I think it would be safe to say consistently faster. If anyone wants to drag race this car on the weekends the auto is the way to go. Road course manual. Most wont even take it off the street. The street involves Ipods, cell phones, fastfood, and drinks. None of which are usable while driving a stick. If Gm produces this car for $50,000 in a manual that runs an 11.7 et, and an auto version for $51,200 that runs an 11.6 et, then I do not see that being a poor decision. |

It is still up in the air - the automatic. I hate to say this; but it seems they are not going to offer it in automatic unless Ford's Mustang GT500 is available in automatic too. Sound stupid but they - Chevrolet still have no desire to expand its potential buying base for the ZL1 on their own; but only driven by the competition! They are totally blinded to this fact it seems that it will sell more cars. It seems to be the same GM as before. Narrowly focused. Not market driven but by the competition. Not front runners but reactionary to the competition.
