Again, someone would have to check on the SS to be sure . The Z would probably have been VERY smooth w/ zero room to go faster. You know...
Just wanted to update (I know this is an old thread)... I recently got the chance to run all out (closed course) and if you hit the limiter you would certainly know it. Its the same stupid limiter setup that is on the LT1 cars had (for the 115 limiter)... you do not simply stop accelerating.. you actually bang off of the limiter (just like you do if you hit the rev limiter) and the car jerks a bit when you hit it. I was still pulling and the limiter caught me completely off guard. There is no mistaking it and you will know it when you hit it. This was on an 01 Z28.

i have had mine 140 in 4th gear at 6000rpm and with the gear change still had noticible acceleration and i shut it down, fast enough for me and that is 100% stock, no aftermarket changes, it is awesome

on topic lol
ive hit 152 with a HP street tune...
i was going up ahill so it was accelerating slow.. so i cut it off.. but my tuner said that 100% stock they cut off at 150...
he said it cant go much more anyways with not that much extras.. i would need headers, cai, etc.. to hit higher mph

Cool topspeed???

Hi
I do have a Camaro 2SS/RS and I like the car (who doesn't hahaha)!
I am currently living in the US but will move to Europe within a year (shit happens). Ofcourse I will take the car with me along with the other two cars I have (Carrera S '08 and M3 08').
The question I have is if somebody knows where I can remove the speedlimiter and what the topspeed will be without the limiter.
If I will cruise the Autobahn even a VW Golf will run 250 km/h (155 mph) easily and I don't think I will like that .
Hope to hear from you.

You need a tuner to remove the speed limiter. You can either buy one and do it yourself or take it to a speed shop and pay them to do it for you. There is a whole section in this forum dedicated to tuning.

Word of caution -- be sure to put tires on there that can handle speeds above 155 mph. They don't come stock.

Second word of caution -- at those speeds you are pushing the aerodynamic limits of a car without downdraft airfoils. Please be careful.

I don't know what the top speed will be but I would guess somewhere around 180 mph on a stock 2SS, LS3

Please read those cautions again. Death will be almost certain at those speeds.

Factory tires are rated at 186 (Y rated) here is the thread http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38536

If you want to know the capability of your car without the speed limiter, check the C6 Corvette. It doesnt' have a speed limiter and had 400 HP with the LS2 in 2005 when it launched, the same as an L99 roughly speaking. And a base C6 Corvette today is running the same LS3 as the Camaro with basically the same HP (430 vs. 426)

A C6 is aerodynamically MUCH better than a Camaro.

But FirstLSK hit it on the head. This is crazy. Autobahn or not.

Stock tirs are rated at 186mph.
A lot of people think that you can drive "topspeed" for a long time.
Sure 150 mph you can for some time...without a problem (read traffic). If you come close to 170/180 mph you can hit it but not maintain it, think about safety for yourself and for OTHER people.
So it will be very rarely (once or twice just hitting the benchmark).
I personally don't think it will exceed 175 mph.
For that purpose the standard 20" pirelli tires will do.
Thanks

Thanks, I stand corrected on the tires.

The other words of caution still hold true. Please be careful.

well all the other guys covered the tires, so the stock tires will do fine for starters, to answer your other question, the SS's limiter is set at 155 mph. so if you need or want more than that....there is the info you requested.

The autobahn only has small sections that don't have posted speed limits, and they will put up speed limits on even those sections when conditions warrant it. they have digital signs that you need to watch. they will tell you what the limits are.

i believe changing the speed limiter will also void your warranty

Do they even do warranty work over there in Europe? Where do you go?
