EDL is a great way to go if you don't have a need for a passport. My inlaws have both because it was a PITA to carry their passports all the time for their little jaunts to Canada for the casino and/or booze at Duty Free. Hey, they're old and have nothing better to do- ya, I'm jealous...

Me? I don't go to Canada enough for it to pose an inconvenience so I/we just use our passports.
