Loves the top end now.

Pulls hard all the way to 7000.

I was trying to get it to shift in the 6600-6800 range. Eventually I succeeded. Tunig the shift points just got a whole lot more complicated.

I used the stock shift points, around 6000.

As you know, my times were fine, so they should be good for you too.

Adding the cam shifted the power band up. Also, the TC changes things. Together, cam and TC are an effort to tune, bit it can be done. I'll post up more info later. Met a G8 guy with experience who gave me some pointers.

Hey Padre,

Have really enjoyed this thread! Very impressive in both gains and documentation of your progress.

I am just getting back in to muscle cars after a long break. (Late 70's early 80's) Boy have things changed !!

I was particularly interested in who / how your gears were set-up. I have a 2011 LS-3 that I have started doing all the bolt-ons. So far just a K&N CAI and Magnaflow 3" cat-back competition series with X-pipe.

On the shelf but not installed are a set of ARH 2" primary long tube headers and high-flow cats and a set of Richmond 4.33 gears.

My concern is I have had trouble finding anyone locally familiar or even willing to install and set-up the gears. I have also been getting all kinds of conflicting horror stories of what it takes to set these up as well as problems resulting from the gear changes.

Would be interested in your experience or advice installing your gears. Anyone else with with experience in this, please feel free to chime in or pm me.

Thanks,
John

Whew. That's a lot of gear! Is it an auto or manual?

6-speed manual. I was initially thinking 3.73 or 4.11, but ran across a deal I could not pass up from another member. Plus calculater says my rpm at 70 mph will only increase from 1680 to 2025. I figured I could probably live with that. (Except maybe for all that gear shifting around town!) Lol

Welcome aboard John! Fun thing about modding muscle cars today is going from carbs to EFI. As a former computer geek, I really enjoy the tuning part with my computer and logging.

As for your question about gears, the hassle of finding someone you trust to do them was the reason I went with the 3.45 M6 differential. It was a lot easier just to swap out the pumpkin.

That said, if you do find someone you trust, go for it. Most of the major shops/tuners on this site are people you can rely on. For someone local in Mobile/Emerald Coast, I don't know, but there are some up here in Atlanta.

I also have my old 3.27 diff for sale. Might be good for someone who wants to send it off for the install without downtime on the car.

As long as you stay bolt-ons only, I think you'll love the 4.33 gears. But if you get a nice cam or go forced induction, then you'd want 3.73's or 4.10's. As long as you don't mind buying new tires, I think you'll have fun.

I hope you don't plan on going to the track with those gears.
