I must interject!!! After own 2 ls3's i decided too take a chance with an auto. I am absolutely ecstatic about it and i have not one regret. The first one was a 2010 brass sycros 2ndgear and 3rd ground i traded it for a 2012 with the updated trans ie: carbon sycros but still once on a blue moon for no reason it would grind and at what seemed like the worst times. I loved the yellow zip tie on the clutch pedal bracket holding the hood release cable that the return spring would rub on on both cars lol (afterthought). Im not bashing the stick guys here ive own sticks all my life. Im a diesel guy at heart and i miss my cummins everyday 2001 6speed HO 2500 quad cab oringed the head stock bottom end reground the cam 150+ hp unrated injectors,B1 single turbo , TsT powermax3 box ,propane and nitrous w bottle warmer on motor was around 513 propane on and nitrous with the box on 10 put 716hp and 1498tq still have the sheet somewhere... Sorry off topic what im getting at is that ive had all manuals all my life and the tr6060 is the hands down the worst shifting trans i have ever driven and the parts that make the manual like the clutch bracket and return spring and robbing the brake fluid res and not havin a dedicated res is just plain junk and a poor design. My cummins shifted better then this trans it was a 6speed known as the NV5600. After owning an auto and looking under her skirt a bit i would almost say they built the auto first and then said o s--- we gotta build a stick fml....quick whip somethin up an yadayada yeah i know i can spend a crap load and make it shift like pure sex but why should i have too do that on a 40,000.00 car i thought that was included when i bought it...i just hope the 6th gen has a better manual for all of us and cause i really do enjoy shifting

Most of my friends who have endure rather tough trips from Virginia to Fest 1, II, III find themselves wishing they had automatics after these monster caravans. It is pretty tough watching my "stick" friends endure muscle cramps and learning how to walk again without dragging that clutch leg around after completing a Fest trip. Auto has its cons ...but after watching many drag races between stick and clutch ...it amazing how forgiving the auto can be under any circumstance! Purely a personal opinion!

What do you expect? The only work you have to do is keep the car straight and work the throttle, you don't have to think about anything else other than not crashing.

Also do your friends live in an old folks home? It seems to me most of the complains about a stick shift manual is that it's not good for a society that worships McDonalds and being physically inactive (of course with this disregarding the people with actual disabilities who have an excuse).

If you bought an Auto you likely bought it because:

1. You are to lazy to operate a clutch in busy traffic.

2. You bought the car because it looked cool (Why I bought my Auto Camaro SS) and as a daily driver.

3. You have an actual physical disability that prevents you from being able to use a clutch or causes serious pain if you do use one.

4. You bought it because Autos are more consistent on a drag strip.

If you bought a Manual you likely did so because:

1. You enjoy a challenge when you're driving and you want to be a part of the car.

2. You don't care about how consistent an automatic is because You like to be the one putting up the impressive times, not the Car.

3. You're not a little bi**h that whines about a little leg cramp after a few hours of high traffic driving. (This one is purely opinion).

To the OP and Everyone please stop making these god Damn threads. If it's not a Auto Manual argument it's a V6 V8 argument...

I have seen some of the most ignorant comments ever in a thread. From both sides... I don't have to justify why I bought what I did to a bunch of so called know it alls that think just because you didn't buy a certain option or type of car it means something about your manhood. You people just need to grow up and accept the fact some people prefer their cars to be one way and some another.

You should be happy with what you have and stop insulting those that chose something different.
Drive and enjoy your Camaro no matter what you have in it.

Angry - Nobody should ever feel that they have to justify their choice in this matter.

That said, it's natural to resist when somebody tries to convince folks that the reasons for their preference outweigh your reasons for yours. Then it's a matter of bringing a semblance of balance to the discussion. What anybody else does with it later would at least be based on exposure to more than a single point of view.

I'll bet that you know the most well-known origin of "Be sure you're right, then go ahead". I'll also bet that lots of these transmission type threads are started by people who don't.

The way this topic keeps resurfacing here and most everywhere else in the automotive 'net leads me to believe that quite a few people aren't 100% satisfied with the choice that they did make. Aside from any trolling that is probably happening, perhape it was buyer impatience (not wanting to wait for a built-to-order car to arrive), maybe they weren't really sure either way, maybe it was a case of plain old buyer regret, or maybe it was because of something else entirely.

From the manual tranny side, there is the constant threat of that option disappearing from the car model(s) of your choice. I doubt that those who prefer the automatic - regardless of what their reasons happen to be - really understands this on a gut level. It truly is a crappy deal when entire car models that are otherwise attractive to you aren't available with the transmission that you really want. Those here who might bemoan the lack of an AT in the 1LE have only a glimpse of what it's like to be shut out of an entire car model line. I've been there. More than once.

Norm
Wow... you pretty much nailed me with one paragraph on all counts.

1) not 100% satisfied w/ my choice
2) I usually troll these threads just to laugh and give the opposing side..
3) I was impatient and wanted a 2012
4) I was totally on the fence
5) I now have a little buyer remorse

Can I pick all of the above?

No
Full (smart) Men make decisions that are well thought out, based on their own needs and wants. If a smart ass were to question him as to why they made that decision. The full man tells them to get screwed. It's the lesser (dumb and probably young) man that would make a decision based on anything else.

to this one I must reply, driving my NV5600 5 speed or the G56 6 speed diesel is easier than the car. Hust shifter helped but baning gears in either dodge is easier that just truth!
my 86 Mustang GT shifted better (sorry Camaro)
I still love my car and can shift it pretty darn well but I've hit the "grind it or find it" place while "spirited driving 2 or 5 times in 14K miles not good by any means makes me sick every time.still never happened jamming gears in my Dodges or Toyota 4x4's either...I'm sure this made no sense so let me say MustangKiller, I agree............
