I'll order one of each and will see what the difference is. I've got the "Z28" pn in our system.

Here's the standard SS's slave cylinder, which has a different part number:

Well after watching Balue's issues and keeping me dealer up to speed on what's happening, im planning on taking her in next week and see what happens. Does anyone know where i can get the clutch slave bearing? I thought monster Clutches but cant find it.I am also getting (thanks Doug)the Ideal garage master clutch cylinder. I dont want to go thru this again, i cant even take 2 gears under acceleration without my clutch pedal going away. I wish customer support would be involved in this discussion, especially with the document (post 211) that GM is saying this is a "Launch control" issue..........uhhh hello, "launch control-Road racing" i dont think so. I have contacted William VIA PM, but dont really feel GM much cares about this issue. The fact we have to buy ANYTHING!!!! for an advertised "TRACK READY" car is just bad business/customer support in my opinion.

I don't think monster clutches has had a chance to get the bearings onto their website yet. But if you send Steve@SNL a private message I'm sure he willget you taken care of.

I suggest everyone who pays for the repair out-of-pocket, or even those who proactively upgrade, to save their receipts.

The first few owners will take the hit, but GM might wake up and issue a TSB or recall later on, as more of these failures start to roll in.

I have seen this happen before with VW. The first few payed out of pocket, some upgraded proactively, and 2-3 years later, were reimbursed after a recall was finally announced, even if the proactive repair was not done by the dealer. Just make sure you have the bill

Damn Steve that is awesome of you! Thank you! I am anxiously waiting your findings.

I spoke to my adviser yesterday and they are waiting to hear back from an engineer on where to go next. Depending on where we go and what they offer I am going to bring up the upgrades mentioned here. I didnt want to go the upgrade route as I wanted everything in the stock system fixed 100% before I started replacing parts and have the same problems then I'm SOL. But I have been noting all and definitely plan on those if/when I get her back.

Got them here side by side.

Initial verdict - zero performance difference, if anything, possibly worse. **more on that later**
  • The casting, seals, and base are all the exact same.
  • The rubber boot is a different color.
  • The plastic bearing support that melts on the OEM slaves (that we have a replacement billet piece for) is still plastic though slightly different in design.
  • The release bearing has a soft rubber base... yes, a SOFT RUBBER BASE. Why in God's name GM would put soft rubber where hard plastic melts is beyond me.
  • The spring on the SS slave is actually stiffer than the Z28 though only very slightly.

In short, not the same, but absolutely not better.
