Hi everyone, I've had quite a week, and today all my hard work finally paid off! After scrambling all week picking up parts, reassembling, etc, etc, I finally got her done last night about 9pm just in time for some of our locals get together today at Sandia motorsports track! It was an incredibly fun track with a couple nasty hairpin turns. We were incredibly lucky to have our local ex Indy car driver Jim Guthrie on hand giving tips and lessons. After taking her around about five times by myself driving like Miss Daisy, I let Jim drive her with me in the passenger seat showing me how it should be done! Then he let me drive with him in the passenger seat, giving me tips on using all of the track and taking the best line, braking, steering, and pretty much everything. What a difference that made! Then for the best of all, he gave me a ride in his vette that's all set up for the track, and he really let her have it!!!!!!
All I can say is WOW can that man drive! Poor RS was too busy with work and couldn't make it, but don't worry, I'll talk his ear off tonight about it, and hopefully he will make the next one. MWS, it would be so worth your drive.
Now for the pics! It was not a great picture day, very cloudy, so I'm posting the best one's I got. Some are at the track, some at Mom's. There's a lot because I was trying to capture all the art work, but it's hard in pictures. It's even better in person.

Very nice paint job!

Sounds like a great day with Jim Guthrie. I knew him back in Albuquerque.... he was pretty hot with Car Crafters. Painted my Black RX7 - they did some awesome cars.

So... the Black Widow thing, I hope RS doesn't get bitten!

Thanks guys. It was a great day. I think Jim actually owns car crafters. The guy that set up this event works with him there. I think Black widdows actually eat their mates, but I really like RS, so not to worry.

[QUOTE=Blue70SS;1822260]Looks like we have a date.... May 19th test-n-tune. Just ordered Nitto 555R 305's for him yesterday. Did my first track runs last night to test things out.
Best time was 12.565 @ 112.81 DA of 5720 (not bad DA for Colorado).
Best DA adjusted run was 12.576 @113.32 actual, DA 5979.... adjusted for DA was 12.174 @116.995. Definitely need some getting aquanted time, refiguring launch RPM, shift RPM, and get used to MTI shifter - whole new arena to deal with. So painfull NOT!

Nice runs Blue. I know what you mean about getting aquainted with all your changes. We have only gone out one time as well and need to get more time out at the track. Hard to find time but when we do I hope to see our times come down.

Yep, Jim had started all his stuff with the Car Crafters bussiness.... his shop painted my 83 RX7 in about 86/87 (not him personally). Very good bussiness owner. Later heard about his crash in the Indy 500... pretty bad from what I heard.

RS, glad to hear you'll be okay!

2010 - Those are the best looking stripes I have seen!!! Awesome

It sounds like the track day was pretty fun. It is a blast isn't it!! I went to the track this weekend as well, all day Friday. I ran about 10 laps per session at 2 min per lap, which ended up being about 60 laps total. I did orientation right away but got kicked into the normal run group with the rest of the cars after the first couple sessions. Finally got a chance to see what the car could do with the other fast cars. There was quite a few Z06 Corvettes, BMW M3's, Porches, GT-R's. I held my own pretty good and only got passed by a couple Z06's - I am still learning the lines also. I am going to have to stiffen up the dampening a little next time. I also learned how important brakes are!! A lot of fun!! After doing this, I am hooked.

Thanks Stratman, and Speed. The painter really is incredibly talented, and while all the disassembly, reassembly, wait time was a pain, it's definitely worthwhile now that it's done.

Speed, that sure is an awesome looking track! It's really nice with all that green surrounding it. Our's is pretty much surrounded by dirt. I felt sorry for the guy that had to sweep all the sand off that had blown on our track from the high winds we had the night before. :( Sounds like you did pretty good, and had a lot of fun. It sure can be addicting. I know what you mean about the brakes. Jim really liked my upgraded brakes and suspension mods. He said my car definitely handled better than the other stock one's, not to mention the upgraded power.

One of our Camaro5 members took this picture of my car on the track.
That's Jim driving with me barely able to see over the dash in the passenger seat.

Hey MWS, thanks, RS knows his boss well enough, but he really got swamped with work the last couple of weeks. You know how it is, especially when you're the boss! He even had to go in today to play catch up. But after hearing all the fun I had, we'll both be ready to go ASAP! We're also itching to make a break to the cabin. Maybe this coming weekend. I think there is another track event planned for us camaro peeps in 2 weeks. Hopefully we can hit that one.

Great paint 2010, love the smoke look. That track looks like a blast. I may get my chance in a few weeks at a road corse. Then in a month I will get to try an oval at PIR. Some of the locals here said I should get oil catch can instaled. I know there was some stuff a few months ago on this, can any one with experience help me out.

Thanks Hoverman. I don't think any of us has done the catch can yet, but if you go back to page 82, 83 on this thread there was a great discussion on the use of catch cans in our cars. There are also posted a couple links to other threads there. Graham even piped in with his opinions. Hope that helps.
