I am inclined to go with the price Z28RockStar is guessing...I highly doubt that Chevy/GM is going to let this cutting edge 550hp S/C 2012 Camaro go for an under $50,000 price tag to start and if so, i bet everyone will be loaded with "options" that will shoot the price right through the roof. Dealers are going to wanna cash in on this car and make as much profit off of it as they can.. another thing..... doesn't anybody pay sales tax on cars ?? here in Phila, PA we have an 8% sales tax !!!!!!!!

let's go with Z4me's price guess @ $48,995 x 8% sales tax(Phila.,PA) = $52,914.... getting pricey.. that is if you will be able to get one at that price, before any dealer markups or whatever "options" that could be added.

I will repost this from the hennessey thread, as to why GM can easily keep the cost of the ZL1 below 50k.

People keep adding all this parts to a SS to try and figure the price, they could not be more wrong you have to subtract high production volume, and high volume part purchase from GM and a 50k pricetag is not that hard.

My business is armored vehicules http://www.gsifabril.com/index.htm , we build armored vehicules for the military and private sector, it's been in my family for 3 generations. The average price on one of our vehicules is 50k. Depending on production volume the prices will vary. Im pretty sure if we can keep mosts costs under 50k when building an armored vehicule GM can certainly keep a 55k price tag on the ZL1, depending on production.

I love Hennessey cars, but a hennessey car is and will always be more expensive, why? They dont have a production line, they take indivudual vehicules and do the work by hand. A production line reduces costs, increses profits, increases flexibility. Those really expensive Lambos for example would cost, around 50-60% less if they were being manufactured, instead of hand made.

People keep adding up parts, like the supercharger, the suspension, the wheels etc. But keep forgetting this parts in a manufactured car, plus production volume, are not really as much as most people think they are.

Yup you have made some very valid points, I'm in business also (not with cars), but enough to know what your talking about. Makes perfect sence
and really were talking about the MSRP here, and GM has very little control over the destination charges, state sales taxes, (greedy dealer markups), and
the extra options you may pick etc etc. Being made on the production line is
what makes cars more affordable to drive, and this was started what 80 or 90 years ago. GM has to compete with other car manufacturers which is the way it should be. Consider what the Russian and Chinese cars were like consistanly over 30 plus years under the old political regimes they had.
There cars never changed while the rest of the world's automobiles had to compete
against each other, this broughtnew innovations and help to keep the prices DOWN.

The After market companies have also provided a great niche in the auto industry, and they have helped to bring us more choices for the cars that we enjoy driving. I believe that some companies such as SLP, and hennessy (among others), have helped to develope some of the new idea's that are now being implemented for the 2012 LZ1.

What GM can build the car for, and what they think they can sell it for are two different views. If it is equipped with the same performance gear as a GT500, which is $55,700,with the SVT package,I would expect it to be pretty close to that mark.
The base Shelby is $49,900,stripped,so they could do a similar deal, and offer one without the "track pack."
The new 392 Challenger is around $51,000,without a supercharger.

The base MSRP for the 392 is $44,380, and goes up from there by adding options. They essentially are between the price of GT500 and a similarly optioned GT-Premium.

Unless you wait 18 months after it comes out, expect to pay $5K over sticker. You will not get a deal.

While I tend to agree there's been at least one here that says his dealer will sell at MSRP.

I have a commitment by my dealer for msrp, not a penny more, discussed with my sales person and sales manager, their will be deals. Dealer's are also selling Boss 302's at MSRP and I got my GT500 for MSRP while they were being sold 15-20k over sticker, you just have to look for deals.
