This one hasn't been made a sticky but the one below is. It has all of the tech threads I have written in one place.

Can anyone tell me if there is a benefit (horsepower/torque) to switching to the ADM Race Intake from a Vararam? Starting to become a little annoyed with the rough edges of the Vararam but if there is not a measurable benefit to switching then I will stick with the Vararam unless I actually need to switch (add a SC or turbos)

No, you will see similar power.

Guess I'll stick with what I've got currently then!

What rough edges were you referring to? Is it something that could be sanded off?

Hey guys, I am wondering why K & N never comes up in these conversations?
After all, I always thought they were the common household name when it comes to air intake systems and maybe the pioneer of filter systems. I was even more surprised that they were not included in JRE's Dyno comparison of all the big names in intake systems. If you read the description of their systems, THEY claim increases of I believe 18 HP. I hope this question does not make me out to be foolish but I just could not keep it inside any longer.

K&N is definitely a household name because they are the original. These days they actually own several of the other intake manufacturers as well. While they do make decent systems, they have become a mass producer and their systems do not produce the same performance gains some of the niche intake manufacturers do. A realistic expectation is about half of what they are claiming. You can get into the high teens with a Roto-Fab or CAI Inc intake with a scoop/washer tank relocation.

Biggest gripe has to be the MAF screws. They have them made out of nylon which isn't exactly strong. Where they screw in is metal so stripped screws are easily a quarter turn away when they are snugged. When stripped they fall out and so far I've lost two or three. Thankfully the other screw held in so I haven't lost the MAF yet!

Other than that it's kinda flimsy and pieces fit together but sometimes need a little massaging to fit together properly.

It definitely works though even if it is a little flawed. Maybe I got one that was one of the early versions (bought used) which would explain some of the issues.

The Vararam intakes are kind of known for hit or miss quality.

Yeah I knew that going in but didn't read anything about the screws for the MAF, also if they could not send the screws in an envelope that would be great. They all end up falling out in transit which doesn't exactly work. Customer service is great though which helps a ton since there are flaws to the product

Ted Jannetty included it in his second comparison test. Below is a link. It did well but it threw fuel trims off a good bit.
