Thanks! Its really fun to do this type of work. Any ideas I have I'm sure I learned from others. That's why I share them!

Well, UPS -- just sucks -- no other way to put it
I got the differential today from them, and they must have dropped the crate -- even with ALL the warnings on it They lost the gear oil and drive shaft bolts, crate was broken, the differential was not strapped down right -- I have the pictures. They sent me a note saying 'left at facility' and delayed the delivery -- no way I was going to accept that so call CS and after 2 hours, still no confirmation. I did get from them 'where' it was and I just rented a truck and got it myself... Looks like they were doing a CYA move -- really sucks. So, I have it, does not look like its in bad shape (a few scratches) so I'm going to put it in and get the bolts and oil tomorrow (thanks to Aaron @ GPI for getting the for me so fast). I'll post pics of way I got it from UPS... ugh, I'd rather drive myself than deal with them sometimes... More to come... -Don |

How I crated it:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Got to GPI great with no issues and GPI packed it the same way I even put handles on it -- those were still on the box too... But UPS then gave it back to me like this: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Humm.... -Don Last edited by hammdo; 02-13-2015 at 05:58 PM. |

Differential is back in! Went in much faster than taking out.
I used 2 jacks (one for the differential, one for the drive shaft) and slowly jacked them up together. I was able to put the passenger's axle in first (I tilted the differential down and to the drivers side). Once that was in slowly jacked both jacks up until I could get the drivers axle started -- then jacked both jacks again -- keeping the pinion yoke aligned with the drive shaft and put the differential bolts in (torqued to 59 ft lbs). Here are the drive shaft bolts (MUST replace each time -- no questions about it) These get torqued to 85 ft lbs: ![]() Gear Oil: ![]() Everything lined up perfect!: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() BTW, don't forget the differential Vent tube ;o) ! Suspension is all back together. So I have to put in the gear oil, then, the NEW exhaust... -Don Last edited by hammdo; 02-14-2015 at 05:17 PM. |

BTW this is the gear oil all over the Camaros 'Kardashian' booty from the pinion seal leak:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Turned out the 'spring' that surrounds the pinion seal popped out and that cause the loss of fluid -- now all new seals, bearings, clutches, Posi-Mod -- just great job by Aaron @ GPI. Can't wait to try it out... HOPEFULLY, UPS did not screw it up in anyway - I didn't see anything when I inspected it... -Don Last edited by hammdo; 02-15-2015 at 01:21 AM. |

That gear oil over the rear end area is much cheaper then undercoating. Remember the tar coatings used in the past?

Oh yes, and I used to do undercoating! What a job getting the over-spray off too...
And the gear oil has friction reducer too so that ought to make it go FASTER ;o)... But, its back in the game! Differential is quiet as a mouse -- did about 40 figure 8's in Lowes empty parking lot to break it in. Did some low speed drives and took it out on the highway -- not a peep! The new exhaust is awesome! Tyler (JDP) hooked me up! I heard the wine of the Supercharger for the first time doing WOT! That is an AWESOME sound ;o) Here is some of the pics of the what I used for filling the gear lube: ![]() ![]() Torque the filler plugs to 24 ft lbs (both of them)... The pump made it a no brainer (doing it with the exhaust off does make it easier)... And now the exhaust and installation: I had to re-adjust this after install as it had a slight NVH. So moved it back and raised it up a bit and all gone! ![]() ![]() ![]() The mess on the floor is the gear lube that dripped from the car after I got back (stained, gonna need some concrete bleach now ;o): ![]() Aaron did a superb job on the differential -- I could tell the difference when it came back -- just fantastic! It was nice to drive it again! -Don Last edited by hammdo; 02-15-2015 at 01:02 AM. |

Gave it a bath and drove it some more. Still need to break in the posi-mod but its really doing great -- I'm really liking the Magnaflows -- still has a rumble but the neighbors won't complain when I start it up @ 6:00 AM. Now, its all cleaned up and ready for the new MightMouse Catch Can!:
More coming! -Don |

OK, MightMouse Catch Can is on (before it started raining hard here ;o)
Pretty straight forward install -- got the Gen5 bracket to install it: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hoses have plenty of clearance and not near any pulleys -- test drove -- no vacuum leaks and NO HISSING as I used 3/8" fuel injector line to fix that part... More to come... -Don |
