Hey, I've got a buddy with a bone stock 05 A4 GTO with low miles. I've been trying to get him to go to the track. Hopefully I can get him to the track real soon. I did own an 05 M6 GTO and an 06 A4 GTO and took both of them to the track freqently (stock and modded). So I have a real good understanding for what they run. I also have several friends with GTOs. The biggest issue with the GTO is the supension/wheel setup. GTO's just love to wheel hop on a sticky track. The Camaro is much easier to get off the line fast. If you can pull 2.0 sec 60' times in a stock GTO, you'll be pulling 1.90 sec 60' times in a Camaro. Its just that much smoother coming off the line. I think that's one of the Camaro's biggest advantage (getting off the line smoothly without wheel hop). |

Yeah, wheel hop was so bad on my 06 M6 GTO I thought I was going to shake the exhaust right out of it.

While on the other hand, my first trip down the track with my A6 Camaro was a 1.93 on the stock tires. With your launching skill, you'd have no trouble at all pulling 1.8x in a stock Camaro. The Camaro's suspension/drive line is much more drag race friendly. |

Nope...same stock engine in two different cars evens things up to show the better overall car. Come to think of it dropping a LS1 into a Camaro would probably yield results not much better then a V6 Camaro. Weight and wheel size would take its toll.

It's not a stock car though and we're not comparing platforms here. We're comparing a stock GTO to a stock SS. But while on a engine swapping topic, I would like to see how an LLT would do in a 4th gen.

So. In the opposite end of the spectrum. GUESS WHAT GUYS. If most of us can take about 150lbs out of our cars and find some legendary 17 inch GTO rear rims and tires we'll be deep in the 11's. AWESOME...THANKS FOR THE EYE OPENER Where can I get some of your stuff from? Do you guys sell it on the GTO forums? Can I get a discount even though I am a camaro guy? Let me know |

Well a few things about this thread:
1- I joined because my father is picking up an RS/SS Camaro in the spring, trying to learn some info, not much posting. 2- Black5thGen is a complete DOUCHE! 3- As most everyone knows, it is a drivers race. Forget about anything that has been said, an LS2 M6 GTO Vs. LS3 M6 Camaro, the better driver will win. 4- Bland styling on the GTO 5- Camaro has a fugly interior 6- Enough with the bench racing, enjoy the car, enjoy the LSx Series Engines and go out and beat up on the Mopar and Fords!!! |
