A Merry Christmas to all you old farts !!! Cooking prime rib tomorrow/today as it were for my family. Been lucky enough to have it entrusted to me for years. A raise of the glass to my brother and all of the other family members of the "old farts" that left us this year !!

First time I'm going to smoke a prime rib on my green egg. Anyone have any suggestions on temp and time for medium rare?

Trick --- I cook it for about 18 minutes per pound. I also use a thermometer and take it out when it gets just over rare and cover it with foil. It continues to cook. Good luck !!

John - Thanks for the advice. What temp do you cook at?

I go 500 degrees for the first 15 minutes then I lower it to 325 degrees (15 minutes per pound). Most important, use a thermometer.

Merry Christmas all. I am having an odd holiday this year. Planned on being home with just the wife. We got a call on Tuesday that her dad who is snow birding in Tampa was diagnosed with Leukemia and had weeks to live without treatment. I called my boss told him about it and took off till the new year. We left Wed morning and drove straight through to Tampa with my 4 dogs in truck.

We arrived at her sisters house early Thursday morning. Got a few hours of sleep and headed to the hospital to see him. He was transferred to the Moffitt Cancer center on the USF Campus in Tampa. His team of doctors there are more optimistic that they can get him into remission with Chemotherapy. He started that today and is responding well to the treatment so far. We are worried however that at age 74 the treatment may be rough but he wants to beat this so that is a positive.

We will be here at least through the end of next week to keep his spirit up. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Almost too late to wish everyone Merry Christmas, but I have 10 minutes! Had a very nice Christmas Eve at church for the Christmas Eve service with kids and grandkids, then beef tenderloin and roasted potatoes and carrots, etc. Breakfast with the crew this morning, then we all scattered. Bittersweet year this year, as I lost my boyfriend this summer to an accident. Time heals all, but the memories remain. I know we are all missing those that we have had at the table or around the tree in years past. Grateful for the memories, but sad that there won't be more.

Yes, time does heal all. Memories help.

Drove over to the Saturday cruise at Pavilions today. Had two friends ride over with me, using the Impala for what it was designed to do, haul families.

Didn't stay too long, as it was COLD! 30 MPH winds made it worse.
