Both of my newer GM vehicles have the blacked out area over the rear view mirror. I assumed it was an effort to reduce temps from Sun glare on the OnStar Electronics inside the rear view mirror.

If that is the case, I wish GM would have given me the option not to include Onstar and not place that black square in front of the regular mirror..

That has been there for years...you don't even see it from either side.
