Are you the CREATOR??????

The window sticker page only works from approximately the time it ships to the time the customer takes delivery. If the window sticker page is blank it either means the vin you supplied is not a valid VIN or it hasn't shipped/invoiced yet or it's already been delivered to the customer.

The script that captures the info for my site is not perfect. It just loads the window sticker page for each potentially valid VIN and if it works, it inserts it into the database. Sometimes the page will timeout when trying to load so the VIN may be up but my script will fail to get it. The big problem is that I can't scan every possible VIN every day, it would just be far, far too many and would take too long and be too much load on both my system and GM's. So I scan the last few hundred possible and the next 500 possible. This would work pretty well if GM put the window sticker pages in order. But they don't. It might take one day for it to show up or it might take two weeks. I simply can't scan that large of a range To help remedy this, I run a scan once a week that does a much wider range to hopefully pick up those stragglers that got missed the first time around. We also don't have the ability to pull info on Canadian cars as they use a different website and last I checked, they aren't making their Camaro info available. So yes, some get missed. But there really isn't much we can do about it.
Are you the MAKER? (The Creator of this amazing Database)?????????

If you are....... We are not worthy....

(Can you give me an idea of what your using to get this process done?)

Yea. Sit down before you continue reading. Might make you sick lol.

Each day I have a scheduled task that runs at 7am (I think that's what I set it to) that runs a C# console app that loops through every possible VIN in the potential range and hits the window sticker page for that VIN. If the page works and has info, I then parse through the text (it's just html, not something nice like XML) and grab all the info. It was pretty painstaking to get this working right and there's still some issues where it's not perfect but it does the trick. It then inserts the data into a MS SQL server database table and moves on to the next VIN. It's pretty ghetto but there's not really a much better way to do it since GM doesn't make it easy. The web page is just a asp.net page using the AJAX extensions and a gridview to pull the data from the table.

Thanks for the info. I do have a question. If mine was made long ago, and just got to the dealer last Friday or so, is there a quick and easy way to find out why? I'm wondering if it was held up in QC forever or something.

Yours is one of the early ones that was put in Area 51 I guess. Theres a thread about those.

Oh and the site will be going down for a little while this evening. Maybe a few hours. Gotta move the "server".

My old Dell "centrino" based laptop (pre-core) sitting in my room. Has like 1gb of ram. It's a bit slow but it does the job.

Software is Windows Server 2008 with SQL 2008.

Oh and here's your latest...
Hey how do you get this type of information. I am working with my dealer managment but have not seen any actual document. You might notice my thread about my car getting misrouted to a dealership in CA. (My dealership is in Omaha, NE) http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30380

I would sure like to see a transportation record.

The info I posted before was from the AAG site. They should be able to sign up there. What's your VIN? I can see if there's anything there for your car. Often times it doesn't show up in their system til it's in their possession and they often just deliver it from the rail yard to the dealership.

I would have literally gone insane without it.
I tend to think it's just incompetence. Glad it helped

Not so fast my friend!

AAG now has it. They should be sending it to the dealer today or tomorrow.
