Yea resetting the fuel economy computer
-you select the fuel economy meter so it displays on the dash, then push and hold in the button on the tip of the stick if that makes sense and it will reset the fuel economy and it will start re-averaging your fuel economy after that...

I have about 410 miles on my RS 2lt...I drive 96 miles round trip to and from work...I had the car almost a week now...I am getting 23.3 mpg. My driving is all I95 at 70-75 mph...The mpg will improve as the motor breaks in a little more...I used to have a Durango hemi...$500.00 a month just in gas to and from work...This is like getting a raise of $250.00 a month...

With 3,300 miles on it now I took it to the Mountians and drove the Snake between Mountian City and Bristol Tn. Anyone that has driven this road knows how twisty and elevation changes are and how much accelerating you do coming out of the turns, and during this trip with 3 pwople in the car I showed an average of 22.3 MPG.

Do any of you guys who are getting low MPG's leave your car sitting idle for any amount of time?

I'll sometimes sit in my car for lunch with the car idling and the heat on and correct me if I am wrong but I think you can just watch the MPG reading drop since the car is not moving but is burning fuel...

My average is about 19 mpg but I am sure it will be better in the summer when I don't have the car idling to keep warm at lunch, lol

With mine...
if I'm doing 60mph, I'll hit 28.9mpg consistently.
if I'm doing 65mph, I'll hit 26.4mpg consistently.
if I'm going 70mph, I'll usually hit 24.7mpg.

I did a 42 mile drive down to Galveston Island this past weekend for dinner at Tortuga's mexican restaurant on the seawall. The drive was mostly straight and flat with a stoplight every few miles (hit mostly greens) and the speed limit varies between 45 and 65. Hit reset when I pulled out of the driveway and averaged 31.4mpg on the way down. Hit reset again when leaving and hit 28.9mph on the way back (hit a few more red lights this time).

Keep an eye on your speed and note how your highway mileage is inversely related.
this just further proves the gm highway mode look at the mileage difference from 55 and up

My Camaro automatic (15% city/85% highway) gets 32.4 cruising at 65 but my commute is 140 miles round trip. Once the engine gets broken in, the gas mileage should end up around 30 or so

I did a round-trip run from kansas to san antonio texas this week. With incidental city/country driving down there, I averaged 27mpg over the last 1600 miles. I'm guessing that's about what I can expect, it should be about as broke in as its going to get with 3300 on it now.

While I know MPG is very speed dependent, I was hoping for better gas mileage at around 70-75, as the highway speed along my daily commute is 70. So far, I am averaging 23.8 mpg without having reset my computer in quite awhile. I plan on resetting the computer once I get my first oil change which will be soon as I have reached 3000 miles in ~ a month and a half. Damn, I need to finish my degree so I can have a shorter commute (head of my lab recently moved his lab to another city so I am temporarily commuting for another 2-3 months).

I got the V6 because that extra 7+ thousand can be used for aesthetic and performance upgrades; I hate the fake ram air intake on the V8 and I love a unique and beauitful car which stands out more than a common high performance one.

Anyways. Mileage is about 21.8 HUGE hills where I live each way to work, i'd say when i'm not traveling down south past LA I get about 50/50 city & hwy. When I travel from central cali to socal I get anywhere from 24-28mpg depending on how i decide to ride it. But generally I like to go fast

As for everyone who is complaining about gas mileage, it might be important to note that EPA rated gas mileage is the equivalent to running a car in ideal conditions, NEVER more than the average national speed limit of 65, with no hills. If you are getting 21-23 mpg at around 70 then you should not be complaining. This is a muscle car, not a Honda prius. V6 or not, this car has power and if you bought it to get 30mpg then you bought the wrong car.

In 2008 they adjusted it to more realistically reflect how people actually drive. They still use controlled conditions to make sure that you can accurately compare one model to another, but the conditions have been adjusted for realism.

http://fueleconomy.gov/feg/how_tested.shtml

They test in various phases. One of the phases looks like this:

The rest can be viewed at http://fueleconomy.gov/feg/fe_test_schedules.shtml

The results should do a better job representing average fuel economy that people will get while driving reasonably. Plenty of people will do a lot better and plenty of people will do a lot worse while driving similar to the EPA test.

I just broke 5k miles and I avg about 19-20mpg in my weekly driving (75%city/25% hwy) if that...and I play it real rough! Now down to SC and back 432mi 1way I avg 77mph and got 27.9mpg. So I'm more than happy since I have to drive through some hill country. Though the SS can get 31mpg or so with the diablo predator. UGH!!!
