- spray detailer
- good quality 100% cotton towels (some prefer micro fiber)
- glass cleaner/paper towels
- "generic" rags
- interior cleaner
- bug & tar

In addition, I carry extra towels/rags...you can never have enough IMO.

Never used a clay bar before in 30 plus years of cleaning but thinking about using it since I bought my camaro.

How often should you clay your car? And upon kneading the clay how do you keep the unwanted items in the clay from damaging the paint as you knead it?

okay Moose....i have read and read and read.......here's the deal.

i got my Camaro (actually wifes) back in May. before deciding on Zaino (i already have everything), i kept carnuba wax on her and it worked fine.

but when we 1st got her home, i had a brainfart and carnuba waxed the black vinyl stripes. i know have the "haze".

i scrubbed with Dawn Ultra today for hours. it got the wax off the paint, but not the haze.

any ideas on getting that haze off the stripes so i can begin the Zaino process?

Hi!

I'd also highly recommend Z-5 (Swirl Mark Remover) seeing as your car is black. You also might consider clay.

The order I'd use the products is;

1. Good bath (Z-7)
2. Polish (either "All in One" or Z-5)
3. Finish with a "wipe down" using Z-6 (some use this between coats of polish-I do not)

* Make sure and use good quality wash mitts (chenile or sheepskin) and I prefer 100% cotton, white towels for polish removal and drying.

If your car is a "daily driver", I'd clay twice a year. (Alot depends on the environment in which you drive)

In kneading the clay, fold the "dirty" area over on itself, exposing a new clean surface. Do this and you'll have no problems.

Spooky, the Z-Kit I is a very good "starters kit".

Also, invest in a couple of good wash mitts (chenile or sheepskin) and drying towels (I prefer 100% cotton white bath towels and/or the "blonde" towels offered on Zainos site)

Thanx man sounds good Ima get it 2morrow. Question though you dry ur car with cotton towels? I'm only asking kuz I've had bad experience with them, when I used them they left swirls on my car, now I use only microfiber towels.

For drying I was able to buy about half a dozen 'Fieldcrest' "Charisma" 100% cotton white bath towels at MACYS ($38 ea.!) and after removing the borders and tags, they work great w/o marring the finish. Unfortunately they're no longer made. :(

You have to be careful in what towels you choose. I was recently at Bloomingdales's looking at towels, and although most of the ones sold are great for people, almost all weren't good to use on cars.

I plan on using the "blond" towels once my towels wear out. I only use microfiber for interior detailing.

Just had the car detailed at The Wax Shop in Alamo Heights. After using the clay bar and being very careful not to touch the stripes they wipe the matte black stripes with Body Shine by Auto Magic. This keeps the sealant from sticking to the stripes. It cleans and makes the stripes look great as well. For windows or clear bra (I have Venture Shield) the best thing to use is LP Aero PLastics Inc. Acrylic Polish & Sealant for aircraft windows. Thom of HTP AutoWorks who installed the bra gave me a bottle of the stuff. Used it a week after the bra installed and it makes it as slick as the rest of the car after the clay bar and sealant. Keeps the windows and mirrors slick so the bugs just slide off after using just warm water and news paper to clean prior to applying.

The installer should only have to clean the area where the stripes are being applied.

But to be safe, give then 24 hrs. to "set', then you can Zaino the car and stripes.
Just a quick question on this: it was recommended by the manufacturer of my stripes to not use wax on them. They instead say that I'm supposed to use Super Gloss Rod and Custom Show Gloss Creme. Is it safe to use Zaino on my vinyl stripes? Do you think this will void the warranty on them? Thanks in advance for the advice.
