We do good things with the Tahoe when the department OVER loads them with tactical gear. Using a range of coils we restore OE ride height and suspension travel. The OE sway bar D bushes show significant wear after 30K in severe duty cycle service -- every day LEO use. Don't get me wrong. The GMT900 is the class leader or I wouldn't have a Denali in my garage. That said, my Denali is much better with Pedders urethane D bushes and our HD endlinks. Now if the Big Boss Man runs with the Four Door Camaro we work the same magic we work with the Camaro. How would you like to have a pursuit Caprice that pull 1. G turns on standard department issue tires? I can tell you that the people at GM are making every effort to accommodate LEO needs. Not having a column shifter is a tick mark in the wrong column. There are many more tick marks in the right column. Out of all the available sedans available for LEO use the ZETA based Caprice is the BEST of Class for every measure in performance. The drive live is the most robust with the lowest cost of operation when analyzed for fuel economy, maintenance and repair. The shift in the shifter position clears up just enough room for the computer screen so maybe the lack of a column mounted shift can be overcome with the departments with superior performance and space in almost every other category. Have the Big Boss Man call me before he makes his buying decision. You'll end up with a fleet of Chevy products. |

Cool info. You have to see the contract on police vehicles...it's really something else...like 40 pages of "required this, required that." It talks about vehicles for evidence techs, unmarked vehicles, patrol vehicles, traffic, upper level management, etc etc etc...The list is amazing.
I like the Crown Vics we are in now. There is nothing wrong with them. They drive, get me there, move well enough, have ok room. But, I want more back seat room for the AP. I want more room up front. I want easier access in and out. I want 21st century SAFETY equipment put in!!! The #1 killer of officers while on duty is TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS. I want to be wrapped in extra protection when we get the new cars. I want about 8 more inches between me and the steering wheel...same goes for between me and the laptop. I want more room under the laptop on the center console. There's just a bit here and there that could make the long hours in the patrol cars more livable. I know the great lengths these guys go through to make the patrol vehicles (whatever they are) the best they can be for LEO. They have done so much...and we are appreciative. We rarely do high speed pursuits. The majority is simple to and from location to write reports. And, beefing up the suspension would allow for "some" drivers to be able to actually use that added tech and suspension while others.....well, they simply back up and hit poles and....errr...better not go there. ![]() Our fleet dept has several vehicles on order and when they come in, said they are going to run them all as much as they can saying, "may the best vehicle win." I know there's a lot of depts that run Tahoes. They love them. There's a bunch that run Chargers and all complain about turn radius. Some of the guys run Malibu's here for stealth traffic and they like them for their "hidden" features, but never really commented on their actual handling. I really want to try the Tahoe and the new Caprice and go from there. |

The biggest LEO business volume we have is in the Charger. They have bushing failures that I have never seen in a GM vehicle. That aside, the Charger is a good fleet unit. The Tahoe is more thirsty, but it meets the standards for space and safety better than sedans. The Caprice may be the best choice. I have driven the long wheel base Holdens. They drive better than the Charger by a substantial margin. A single in dash display, technology that is available right now but is prohibitively expensive, would make most any LEO unit safer. All the 'stuff' you need to do your job is a potential hazard to the officer in the vehicle. The Crown Vics may have been the most durable and reliable vehicles ever used in fleets. The same dated technology that made them so reliable is a key reason they lack all the up to date safety features. |

If you didn't see it in the suspension section...
Pedders USA will be at PRI and we look forward to seeing the Camaro5 Community in Florida. Our booth Number is 5755. We have been invited to display the Pedders USA............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ......................mustang in the foyer. On the other hand, we all know which car won Pedders Supercar Shootout ![]() ![]() A number of you have asked, so I'll answer here. This is NOT a Photoshop image. John is in the Camaro and I am in the mustang at speed on track 12" apart. You can see John is moving ever so slightly to his left because I was too close to him. Hey John -- CHICKEN!!!! ![]() ![]() All of you, even those poor misguided wayward misinformed souls with any brand-x bits, will be welcome to talk cars and suspension. ![]() Now back to all things Z! |

Then there was this tiny little commuter. It has 12 seats. One row per side. A flight attendant, not the one working the flight, sits in the row in front of us by the door. The flight attendant working the flight closes the door. The seated flight attendant starts sweating bullets, turns grey and while we we taxi to the run way starts screaming. Let me out. LET ME OUT!!!! Turns out she is claustrophobic and melting down in a panic attack. Flying is a great form of entertainment

![]() i don't have any of those really good stories....just ones of landing and having the plane rise back up...aaaaand back down again. We've had horrible wind and landed at an angle before (love those videos of the armed forces guys landing those HUGE C4's in nearly at a 45 degree angle. CRAZY!!! Hell, if pilots out there can do this type of stuff, I can see that the planes can pretty much handle all of the normal flight stuff they go trhough. yep...I'm cool. Anyone know of that video I'm talking about? Where the pilots intentionally bring the plane in at a 40 degree angle or so and then straighten it out right before it lands? There's some compilation of landings of those and they are simply AWESOME. |

I've got plenty of stories from my experiences in flying in military aircraft. from c-130's to kc-135's. most recent was flying into (2 days ago) england and feeling the acft sliding sideways due to ice on the runway. . .fun. but again still safer then driving in NC. |

I'll be honest. I'm more afraid to fly commercial then on a military acft. I at least know who's worked on the acft and that it really is safe. |
