Pretty much every nodern vehicle I've owned has gotten the oil changed at 5500 to 7500 miles. Seems wasteful to me to change it so soon. I've never had a problem with the engines either. I use either Mobil 1 full syn or Valvoline. Both great oils, both will help your engine live a happy life.

Its fine. I normally change oil at 3,000 miles (4,000 miles for the dd), or no more than one (1) oil change a year for my stored cars. Its good to do at least two changes a year at no more than 3,000 miles per change. This is my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. My cars, so far, haven't suffered with my regimen.
Monitor your oil level and look for low oil readings and/or sharp changes in the oil level.
