BTW if you are in Brentwood area Brentwood mufflers rocks. The put on my shortie headers for 380. Not bad if you take into account In running a edelbrock supercharger and the have to come out the bottom. Gut spent most of the day changing out doug thorleys for JBA's

All passed with smog. Glad that is over for another 2 years. The good part is smog does not detect custom tune. On performance not sure yet. I really do not expect much difference between the doug thorleys or JBA's but will see.

i find it kind of hilarious that you can put on a supercharger but not a cai.
You can also go crazy with any 78 and older(i believe) cars as much as you want, no smog.

For vehicles I believe it's pre 1976 that is exempt from smog check, but not from emissions laws (technically still supposed to follow the rules, just no mandated check every two years). Pre 1967 are totally exempt.

And before you say something like, "Oh, well he should at least tell you first before he fails you for modifications" He can't, or else he can still get a ticket, lose his job, lose his license. Think twice before you do a shitty thing like that. Quote:

Dyno #'s???
No offense Bro. but I would need to see the before & after Dyno #'s to believe any CARB approved Shorty produced hp increase.

ok...of I can list what is good and what is bad:
Good: K&N CAI Carbon Fiber...Lights out expensive, but cool as h3LL. Maybe 20-30 + HP Shorty Headers, but no ??HP gains. Cat Back...question the DB levels and dual mode exhaust. ?? HP gains. But the sound not sure which would be the best. Friend says Borla. 1600 bucks for pipes and a couple of mufflers... Bad: ANY HighFlow AFtermarket CATs. ANY Long Tube Headers ANY Catch Cans. ANY CAI that is not CARB Approved. If you do any of the bad, remove them before the smog check. Sounds like a lot of work just to pass a $70 bill. If the HF Cats were a moduler quick click R&R that would be the ticket. But people don't sell to CA?? not sure. I'm looking at the Good. without the catback or shorties. I like the CatchCan though...the demos of what it does is amazing. I guess you just add this to the oil that gets recycled at the local parts store.

But I see no point in ever buying high flow cats in ca, it's going to be illegal anyways so why not just straight pipe it? It's way cheaper, same or better gains, just as easy to reverse... Makes no sense to spend hundreds on a part when you can just do that. |
