Just realized something else, the G8 GXP is tuned for regular gas by Pontiac while the Camaro SS is tuned for premium which could be a small gain in mpg's as well.

Short version, the GG tax is calculated with a bunch of 'cheats' that happen to work out to roughly the highway fuel economy of the car being tested. So although the SS will technically average 19 mpg or so, it will get a rating of ~23 mpg for the purposes of the GG tax.

corvettes only weigh like 3200-3300 lbs, which is why the ls3 returns such good gas mileage.




just visited a SRT8 chally today and the highway mpg was 19 mpg, and this was an automatic. with the 6.1 liter HEMI

The challenger is heavier, with a less advanced power train.
