I dont think the little noise is really as much of a big deal as everyone made it out to be in the beginning to be honest. Mine did it new, they changed the fluid out and it quieted down a bit. Its still there a little but ive put 20k mi since then and it really is only noticeable when cold. You dont see many "My rear end is shot, blown out, dead, broke etc" threads popping up and plenty of people stil have the noise so I wouldnt worry about it. Beside with some proper exhaust you cant hear it anyway lol.

Well I put about 500 miles on after the installation of the Diff, axles, and driveshaft. Royal Purple fluid, dumped it, filled it again. I've run nearly 5k miles on this fill and still when cold I get the moan. That is what started me researching this phenomena and seeing all the posts and TSB. I wondered if it was the Royal Purple but folks seem to have it on factory fluid as well. If it isn't "hurting" anything then the noise doesn't really bother me. To add to this I am running solid subframe bushings so I am apt to hear a little more than others might anyway.

I had the exact same kind of sound and at 26,000 miles GM gave me a new diff... That one repair paid for the cost of my GMPP warranty... Only problem was it took ten days to get a diff from Detroit out here to Colorado Springs.

WOW $600.00 to change the rear differential fluid, that is unbelievable! That is easier to do than changing the oil, like Bryan stated change it yourself.

Hello,

Rear end differential "noise" on deceleration. This happens when I let off the gas and are coasting. It's pretty faint, but once you notice it you can ear.

ZL1 Conv. 2014 - 40.000kms
automatic gearbox replaced at 30.000kms

How to solve? Any feedbacks? Thank you.

Ascertain proper fluid (AC Delco 10-4034, GM#88862624) is present and appropriately filled. Why was the transmission replaced at 30k kms?

If he screwed up the transmission, I'm just hoping he didn't do the same to the differential.

That's a backlash issue on the ring and pinion, pretty common in this car. Some of the 13's had a carrier issue that would howl on both accel and decel, but the only fix for that is to replace the whole carrier. Unless you personally know someone or a great racing rear end shop that specializes in rear end set up, just leave it. It’s no longer under warranty and GM dealers only know how to replace the Ring and pinion with new and reset lash. They are not capable of getting the lash better than you have it now, so it will be worse. The other option is to buy a new pig and replace the whole carrier, or find a wrecked one and hope it doesn’t howl also.

Just curious is it between 67-72 assuming you have an M6 in 6th.
