I actually know a buddy that did just that on his prelude. Diesel Turbo with the modified wastegate..amazing results on his setup. But it can be done and you will be good. Let me know if you have any other questions. sent from my galaxy s3. that would explain the errors.

Put a turbo on my friends car for under $400 found a Volvo turbo at the junkyard and searched everywhere for all the pieces needed and even had to weld some stuff. Been running for almost 2 years now and no problems
so for ever one who thinks you need to spend a tons of money your wrong you just have to be patient, learn how to weld, and do your research!!!

If you can weld, you can save a good chunk of change. |

Saving money is great, but the real advantage of a custom build is making choices for you. Junkyard turbos can work great, but it's a bit of luck.
If you want a killer set-up, learn how to read and plot compressor maps. There are some companies that don't have the resources to do the maps, so those should be chosen partly based on a similar combo that works. Be realistic about your power goals, and above all, drive agood factory turbo car like a GTR or a 911TT so you have a reference of what it feels like when it's done right. Then, if you are not a trained welder, use factory manifolds of some sort, that way any mistakes will not adversely affect the turbo.

These posts are cracking me up. The guy wants to buy an eBay turbo, an intercooler, blow off valve, and fab the rest at home. Some of these comments from negative Nancy's make me laugh. This guy isn't going to make his own camshaft in his garage.

I thought hot-rodding and car performance modifications were born in the US. If the guy pulls a turbo, fabs up a system and gets it working then fair play to him. Shame modern stuff is riddled with kompewtahcrap that just frustrates the home tuner guys. Good luck to the guy I say.
