The cars were delivered from Riley with the one piece shaft. We have Chassis 001 built by Riley and they went as far as to remove the mid mounts in the car. Our 9 car, which is chassis 007 I believe still has the mounting points. Our Crew chief has built a few of the BMW cars out there racing and always used the two piece shafts.
When we ran the 6 car at VIR in 2009 for the last race, the vibration was so bad it was almost undrivable. With the version that we use now (which has changed 3 or 4 time) the vibration is still present but no where near as bad (livable). Livable an in drivable and not killing other parts (pinion or tail shaft bearings) I hear the two Canadian cars were running the two piece shafts, but i did not get any time to talk with them and see what they thought. All I can tell you is that if I was building a Camaro for any long term diving and/or road racing it would have a two piece shaft. |
