Look, folks, I'm not promoting anything or cutting anyone. I was just posting my real-world experience with State Farm & GEICO. The GEICO rep I spoke with was very nice and did a great job. I'm sure it would be different with anyone and I'm sure it works different based on many things, I have a young driver in my HH. I'm not trying to pull something under-handed, promote one company over the other, etc...

Yes I have, unfortunately, I was rear ended last month in my Camaro, by an uninsured driver.

I haven't had a problem dealing with Geico at all. I was rear ended last year as well in my Jeep, I used the preferred Geico bodyshop that time, and this time in my Camaro, I had it taken to the bodyshop of my choice.

No problems with Geico either time at all.

My personal experience with Geico is pretty iffy. (Only reason I picked Geico is they were 20$ cheaper)
First off they wanted to hurry up the process and sent out a check to fix my car minus a new door (they wanted to put a door skin on my brand new 2 month old car). I wasn't going to take any crap from them, since a new car should be fixed like new, not skin ground off and new one welded on. Took them about 2 months to get the second check out and because I'm too far away from a Geico-affiliated repair shop I had to choose my own and they messed up my paint. Geico won't help go after the body shop.
Really tempted to check out State Farm, even if they're a couple dollars extra. At least I won't be raped in repairs when it comes to the inevitable. And they'll stand behind their customers if the paint job isn't satisfactory. THAT'S the way insurance should be.

Cool $800 a year! That's better than 15 minutes any day!

I had been with Geico for 8 years. I had been considering shopping around, but never moved on it, until this post. A mailing to my wife got me to go to State Farm's website & an agent called me the next day.

All said & done, the premium on my Camaro dropped $336.22 a year! (48yo, Married & 1 ticket).

I also have a 2008 Kia on full coverage & my wife's '97 Sebring on liability only. The entire policy was over $800/yr cheaper with State Farm!

You just never know what you'll learn on this web site! Thanks Camaro5!

When I was shopping for car insurance (I'm 18) geico was about $3,000/6 months.

I think with state farm (same as parents) was $1200/6 months.

15 minutes could INCREASE your rates by ATLEAST 15%...

The weirdest thing is my gf has GEICO and has tickets and is cheap i tried them thinking hey if she is low i should be too. I dont have any tickets only thing on my record was being rear ended. I was almost 3 times her price. I use Allstate till i find someone cheaper.

I had Geico for a few years...just for the Camaro and Cavalier, I was paying $1240 every 6 months just for auto insurance.

Check AAA insurance. I Pay $336 6 months for an SS..39 years old, Michigan, no points.

Have my 10 Camaro, 03 Cavalier, 67 and 68 Firebirds as well as my home insured with AAA. I was paying $3450 with State Farm per year now with AAA paying $1798 per year. Much cheaper than State Farm, Geico, Progressive, Farm Bureau, Citizens

Of course, alot of different factors matter...shop around though.

If you have 2 or 3 cars that see less than 5k a year, rate those vehicles different and carry a higher comp/collision deductable or dump the full coverage alltogether.

For what its worth, I needed State Farm on a car of mine that got damaged. They were fantastic! I was very impressed with how they handled everything and how quick they were to help. I will stick with State Farm without any doubt due to their service. A friend of mine who owns a body shop says that Farmers and Allstate are the most difficult to deal with and get money from. Just food for thought. Cheapest rates could equal a huge pain in the arse when you need them to fix your car!
