Tarp helps to keep moisture from concrete from building up on the under carriage of the car. Also gives the tires something slightly softer than concrete... may not even make a difference for flat spotting, but we'll see in a few months I guess.

I'll be joining you soon in the next week. Waiting for 1 more good day to detail it and then snug it away for the winter.

Now I just have to find a winter beater.

Sad, but I spent a winter in upstate NH (seemed like a life time for a STex native) and can see why you would put it away. Saw a few black ice wrecks on very nice days not to mention the salt etc...If I was there I too would have a second auto winter ride..the trap is a nice touch, I did not think about the moisture problem.

Questions: would jack stands help the tires/wheel bearings over a 4 month storage? And do you start it once a week to keep the engine lubed? Gas additive?

Nobody has to put their car up for the winter. They come with doors, windows, wipers and heaters. I probably won't drive mine in the snow (if we get any this year, some years we don't), but other than that, it'll be on the road all winter in the good ol' Pacific Nortwest rain and drizzle.

I wake every morning waiting to drive her to work. Like most I won't take her out in the snow or even marginal days, that's what the subby is for. I can't imagine paying for the car and not being able to enjoy it ??
Nothing like a good wash to keep anything off the under carriage ! Just blew trough 30K this weekend and she still purrs like the first day !

Too bad it has to get benched for the winter, but I understand completely. When I lived in VA they would sand the roads and you would wind up with these huge brown bolders bouncing off your car. Plus, it didnt do crap for the ice.

At least you know she is happy, safe and warm (sort of) for the crappy months ahead. I think I would have to cry if I had to park my car for 4 months.

Changed oil, added Stabil to a full tank of 93 octane, stuffed tailpipes with steel wool, and connected a battery tender/trickle charger. I consdiered jack stands, but everybody seems to have a different opinion on this, and I've also read that unloading the suspension, particularly IRS for such an extended period, could cause damage. So I just added 40PSI to all of the tires to help avoid flat spotting. We'll see if that works or not since this is my first season storing. I don't plan to start the car at all, so there it sits until Spring.

Also put some damp rid in the interior and left it in N, no e-brake with tires chocked.
