That's the bottom line you need to worry about you. Why should you pay the price? Your putting your life in danger for us and to get out and have nothing. Someone needs to replace your car.

+1 Let the family pay you now for your car, or let your insurance cover you and send her to jail. Their decision. Either way you get your car paid for immediately. Don't accept any type of payment plan.

Pardon the pun, but you need to pull the trigger and change the report. She has already proven she cannot be trusted, as has her family.

I agree with the majority here. Report it stolen so you can get your ride replaced.

just my .02...if it were me, I'd find out exactly how long I had to change the report...tell the family if the full $$ amount to replace the car wasn't in an escrow account by that time, you would have press charges. I think that's reasonable and gives them a chance to make it right.

Man that sucks!! I understand that its a friend of the family, but screw it for every decision you make (good or bad) there is some sort of consequence. She and the BF needs to go to jail and cut your losses with your friend if he gets all pissy about it.

Thanks for all the comments. I have decided to go ahead and report it stolen as I only had a limited time to make the decision and after constantly being on the phone with mother, father, brother, and even boyfriends parents. The boyfriends parents flat out said they are not paying for shit and don't even consider their child at fault (from what I was told about what led up to the crash I kinda feel the same. He thought the car was her brothers and she had permission, he never got behind the wheel) The girls parent don't have the money to flat out pay off the loan for the car and don't even intend to help her, but they want me to believe this girl they don't even trust under their roof is going to pay me back somehow. Not even going for that. I called the officer about 8am this morning and filed a formal report, by about 9am the girl because she was driving was in cuffs, and by 9:20 my Gmail inbox was 349 and emails richer, one from her father saying that I was a "soulless bastard" and 348 more from every offshore fly by night Viagra selling website you could think of, wonder who put my email on the mailing list. (Shout out to Google for awesome spam and junk mail filtering)

I don't know how familiar any of you are with former military only banking and insurance company USAA, but as of just before I came back to write this post USAA my loan and insurance company informed me that I now have a 0 balance on my loan and if when I when I get home I want another Camaro It would be as simple as picking a color. Pending then mailing me a bunch of paperwork to sign of course.

if it was me,i would demand $35000 from someone now.cash or certified check.you will never get paid for that car if they pay you in payments.friendship is one thing,$35,000 is something else.you are not going to be able to be nice about this.

I'd tell her father this actually was HIS fault for being a souless bastard first by kicking her out of the house. Had he not done that, his little angel wouldn't be in jail right now.

You did the right thing. Salute!!

I agree...you did the right thing. They really left you no choice. If you didn't, chances are you would have gotten screwed.

I feel kinda bad for the girl but not bad enough to take a potential $35,000 loss. More then anything I'm just thankful that I have a awesome bank and they took care of all this with minimal effort on my part.

Actually the worse part for me what that while I'm here I worked a deal with a one of the custom body shops here on the forum to start paying now for $10,000 dollars worth of mods I was going to have done to the car. The plan was to start paying now, drop the car off at the shop on my mid-tour leave and and have the car worked on and balance paid by the time I came back in july. It was going to be badass. I have to contact him and ask for a Refund of the money I had already put down, that shit was seriously embarrassing. I hate to back out of business arrangements that I have made
