According to the shop I had my 02 SS done, in South Carolina, the tint shops are required to put a small ID decal in the corner of the tinted glass, aka a type of shop signature, "certifying" it meets SC legal tint standards at the time of application, etc.
Basically, as it was put to me, if the state wanted to, they could ALSO come back and whack the tint shop for violating the law by applying the illegal tint because they should know better. Mine has them, but I haven't bothered to look at the ID to see what is actually on it. If it doesn't have the sticker, then it is assumed the tint was applied by the owner and it's all on the owner then should it be found illegal.
