I won't be renewing. It really isn't worth $20/mo in my opinion. if somebody steals my car, I don't want it back. And if I get into a life threatening accident. I guess I'll have to take my chances like the rest of the world. I'd pay $5 or $10 for piece of mind especially if the system will be used at the MOST one time. For navigation, I'd pay maybe $15 MAYBE. But then again, I'd rather pay $200 for a standalone GPS or buy a cell phone and pay $25/mo for unlimited internet and free google navigation. At least that way I get internet AND navigation.

didn't bother with the directions package...
the safety pkg was $199/yr, and I kept that 'just in case' of emergency...
the directions pkg was an extra $100/yr...

I'm planning on only renewing the safe and sound plan when the trial is up in January.

My insurance co. said to get a discount, I would need to install a backup battery?!

I'd rather keep on using my Metra kit and the Kenwood DNX9960. The only thing I like about OnStar is the towing/gas service and the monthly reports. But is it worth it? No. Maybe like $30 a year and I'm in, but anything more and it's a waste for me.

My wife and I have one Tracfone between us. I use a company cell phone for work. So I have the basic Onstar in our Olds and the Camaro. I am not a kid that wants or needs a phone with all kind of junk on it.

You can get a myriad of great navigation system apps for an iphone for under $80 that never need another payment and don't need the internet (tom tom, iGo, CoPilot, etc). Great graphics (3D) and easy to use. They don't know if you wreck, but the iphone comes in handy if you are concious and can push a button. Just my opinion.

Onstar is worth the money in my opinion especially the safe and sound. I locked my key's in my tahoe when i went to get some things out of the rear cargo area and i laid my keys down. Luckily i remembered that i had my onstar info in my wallet and i called them up and they unlocked it for me on the spot. It saved me a fee from a lock smith for sure.

Also, my parents live out in the country area and the onstar calling feature was clear and never dropped calls, it was a lot stronger than my cell phone. I learned that since onstar is contracted with verizon wireless for service, i could just add my hands free calling from my tahoe as an additional phone line on my verizon account without having to pay onstars phone minute rates and never have to worry about how much minutes are left on the phone.

???? XM has a lifetime plan not OnStar. There is no way they would offer a lifetime subscription for only $100 more than a year costs.

As for me I have it and will continue to carry it. The navigation works great I've been up and down the north east with it (it even gave me perfect directions on backwoods dirt roads in NH). Also the price is negotiable, just call them up, I got everything for $250/year.
