Ophiuchus was always omitted for some reason (also calendar used to be 13 months or moons). But the the real reason why this has happened is that our Solar System is moving around the universe and now that we have moved to a different location. The Sun traverses the stars a little different than it did when the Zodiac was dreamed up.

Also Astronomy and Astology are two differnt things.
