I agree. I don't like the looks of any vert with the top up but I do think the Camaro with the top down is one of the best looking verts I've ever seen.

OP: You can add a S/C to the vert but why a roll bar? If you plan one doing a lot of racing, get the hardtop.

Have a 2001 Convertible, and had a Corvette Convertible nothing can beat putting the top down on the summer days and enjoying it. If you really want a conv, I would go with it. Because after you buy that coupe your gonna wish you would of bought what you really wanted. You cant go wrong either way.

I've had (through work) a mustang convert in the coldest months of winter in Fl (we had frost...) and I never had an issue, even driving in at 6am @ 25 degrees. Likewise, I didn't mind the highway noise with the top up, top down, of course is loud but that's to be expected.

That said- its really a personal choice. Honestly, do you think the few hundred lbs weight difference is gonna effect you runnin a stang off a light? Occupant weight and driver ability will factor into that just as much (and more) than the braces and mechanics weight. Likewise, u never know what's under the hood on the street (or.how.much $$$ someones put into it), so I really, really don't think the weight is an issue. Short of a heart-stopping, exciting race on the dyno, there's a lot.more factors than convert weight.

With that in mind, that brings me to your next point- your gonna pull more panty in a vert. Period. I used to get crap from my friends for my v6 99, but it looked a hell of a lot better than their ragged out 500 hp super 8s, and to the ladies, they didn't know the difference in engines, looks.won hands down every time!

Bottom line- your personal prefference. $6k is a big jump just for a drop top, not to mention insurance jump over coupes. To me its worth it, but to many, its not. U can probably pull a 1SS at yr end around $40, but I seriously doubt a 2SS is bugetable. But good luck with whichever you chose!

I honestly can say that I would not take my Vert to the track, at the most I would have a street fast car that I can do occasional street racing (safely of course) and thats about it. Roll bar was just for the added protection.

...But Drago, I guess you really hit the point for me and that is to have something that will turn heads. Haha yeah you are right about chicks not knowing the difference. I would say most chicks know the difference between a V6 and a V8 but not about the details that most guys do. Call me shallow, but with my recent leap into bachelor-hood and me not getting any younger I wanted to beef up my wild experiences until I get old or get married again. I honestly think the Vert will do it for me. I just didn't want to choose a vert and totally regret it. Just from the above reading it seems like the differences are much more minor then I previously expected.

Good luck with your decision. I don't think you can go wrong with the Camaro SS drop top - it's a beauty, based on the pics I've seen.

I don't like the look of the convertible with the top up. I like it fine when it's down. I prefer the hardtop.

And don't call me "Gents."

depends on where you live to and the weather. out here you see the tops down pretty much year round. I've had a vert and loved it, but if you dont get the right color, the vinyl doesnt match.....only downside. I believe GM should have gone with TTops or at least a hardtop option....i think they would sell more...just my opinion!
