I agree with all you people that say "I'll pay the fines" unless it got to be a hundred dollars a week or something, but didn't some people say you can't even register the car without an inspection? Does anyone know if Ontario is like that?

They will inspect it, and tell you that you need front plates. You tell them you are going to install them yourself. Its possible to go for over 7 months without installing them and not have a cop pull you over, thats when the plates were finally installed. No idea how long Mom and Dad could have gone. This was on an imported 2008 Saturn Aura, so it might be different when buying a brand new in Ontario.

I went the way of zip ties looped thru the grill. May look at attaching with toggle bolts at later time. If you are like me and don't want to give cops another reason to be pulled over it's a definite alternative.

I have the front plate on mine. I use nylon cable ties to attach it to the LOWER GRILL. NO DRILLING and it fits perfect.

I refuse to do it on mine, I'll be bringing some of that 3M sticky tabs, the ones that hold hooks on the wall. And if the dealer insists on the plate being there I'll put it on with that until I leave. I gave my dealer a very specific checklists of do's and don'ts and no front bumper drilling is very clearly listed.

Went through a road block last week, (looking for inspections), Sheriff asked "where is your front plate?" I replied that it was under my seat and showed it to him. He asked why it was not mounted; I told him I was waiting from the mounting bracket from the dealer. He smirked and said he would accept that answer. He then proceeded to ask a bunch of questions about my ride, was the 426 horse, manual auto, etc. He knew quite a bit about them and was very complimentary about my car, said he wanted one but it was not in his budget.

The other Sheriff, who was checking traffic coming the other way, came over and asked if I had gotten it sideways yet? I laughed and said “no, I had not even lit them up yet” They laughed; I don’t think they believed me. After about 2 minutes of discussion, I looked in my rearview mirror and there are about 15 cars lined up behind me….the sheriffs didn’t even look, they kept talking about my car.

After another minute or so of conversation they said, take it easy hate to see any dents, and sent me on my way. It was kind of funny. Though I do not know if I can use that reason for not having my front plate on any more .

LOL, at least they where cool about it. Since I live in upstate NY I guess I had better not give that excuse as it's already taken .

Wow, I never knew so many states require front and back plates.

Here is the list.

Just a quick observation, but it looks like the South (minus Virginia and Texas) loves the look of their cars more than the rest of the country.

Hi everyone!

I intend to order a Camaro 2SS/RS with the ground fx package. Does anybody know how the front plate bracket from factory (VK3) look like? Do you guys know where I can find a picture of something similar attached to the car? I'd like to know where exactly the plate would be mounted. I found some pictures around the forum but I don't know if they are the same. Thanks

I drove my 2LT/RS around for a year without the front plate and never got a cop's attention. Two weeks ago I traded it in for a 2SS and the freakin dealer drilled the fascia and mounted it before I could tell them not to. Now I'm faced with either leaving it, or paying a lot of money to remove it and have a body shot fill the holes, repaint and clearcoat the fascia :(

Grounds... it diminishes the value, and most importantly the beauty of my Camaro, and I already have to put up with one on the back!

But really... being pulled over for not having a front plate isn't going to ruin your year, your month, your week... possibly your day. I'd take the chance, no plate, if you think you can the rest of the laws. From what I gather, most LEOs are into nice Cars and will let you off with a warning (and a high-5)!

We in Ohio have to have front plates, my wife has driven without a front plate for over 25 years and has never been pulled over. Driving my Camaro I was pulled over once late last year, this year 3 times. I was pulled over within 20 minutes after getting it out of storage. There is no question that police target sports cars and it really pisses me off.

After the 3rd time I just said to heck with it and put on a front plate. No way was I going to drill holes in my car so I used cable ties to attach the plate. I guess I've just gotten used to it being on the car and don't even notice it any more.

The ironic part is a week after I put the front plate on I was sitting at a traffic light and there was a Lake Township local LEO behind me. The light changed to green and right away he hits his lights and tells me to pull over on his PA. I was so pissed off, 4 times this summer alone. I let him have it as soon as he got to my window (mistake) and asked him "what the hell reason did he have to pull me over for sitting at a traffic light?" He says my Pittsburgh Steelers license plate frame (haters keep it to yourself) partially blocks my renewal sticker and I need to either modify the frame or remove it completely.

He said he was ready to write me a ticket because of my attitude until I explained why I was so aggravated. I asked him why my car is being targeted and he said because they are so recognizable over an SUV or non cool looking cars.

It's really not worth fighting it any more, the LEO's are going to win no matter what.

Russ
