You need to remember that even with a manual transmission shifting isn't immediate.. If you are shifting there is a time delay between when you decide to shift and you physically push in the clutch and move the shift lever.. So I bet the perception in shift delay is more because all you do is push a button and the rransmission shifts for you.. it take alot less time for you to push a button with your finger that it does to push in a clutch and move the shifter... so in my opinion while you are doing something with a manual all the time during the shift, all you do with the tap shift is push a button and wait.. I bet if you could time the two events that the "Delay time" between your first motion to shift gears and the actual engagement of the next gear is alot less than it seems...

i think its cool that it wont shift if its not ready to and it will down shift for you if you dont do it. this tap shift looks pretty advanced. only one way to find out when it hits the street wooot

You seem to misunderstand. It will shift unless shifting would put you past the redline (this would ONLY matter for downshifting).

ok call me a Geek, but I think if you go to downshift and the system can't because you're reving to high the DIC should light up with a red ball

and the system voice should say "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that"

we're just going by what the video is saying

Quote:
If the current speed is too high or too low for the requested gear the shift wil not occur
so i take that as if you shift from second to third and then right away into 4th it won't let you either

That's weird. I don't see why it wouldn't let you upshift as much as you want.

And yeah, its a message in the DIC that says "shift denied."

Keeps you from overrevving the engine when downshifting or bogging it down when upshifting.. I don;t know about that it denying the shift going up though, when I drove the Saturn Vue a couple weeks ago it let me go all the way to 6th at 30MPH just one shift right after the other...Maybe the Camaro will be different..
one thing for certian, you can't "Miss a Shift" like you can with a Manual....

I don't know if it would be any faster, but YOU get to control when it shifts just like a manual, if you want to get to top gear sooner you can run it up faster, if you want to hold in gear for going up or down hill you can easier. I know when I drove the Tail of the Dragon in my first Sky (manual) I kept it in 3rd gear most of the time, but when I drove the Second Sky (automatic), I could pull it into 3rd gear but it would also shift down to second sometimes...
