I can tell you that the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT 8 is not slow by any means.I have a real good friend that owns a Service station with a small car lot. They have two 2008 SRT 8 Challengers and I have driven one and have seen with my own eyes 145 mph. There was alot more, but not enough Road.We did a 1/4 mile with two men and a tank of gas at 13.3 sec.The only thing I did notice is that it seems like it takes a few seconds before it starts really going. I thought it was alittle weak on bottom end,but when it gets around 75 it pulls hard.I think the Camaro is going to be stronger all around and really better on bottom end.

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

It pulls hard ,but when it gets around 75 it pulls even harder.I was amazed how fast it could go from 75 to 125.It felt like it was, because of the weight.Like it took a second to get going , but once it got going watch out.It felt like it was over weight. That's what I was trying to say.

The 6.1 Hemi has a weird torque curve

This means they twist at different rates, and so want to "hop" at different rates, effectively cancelling themselves out with some other resonance modifications. Wheel hop is all but eliminated on a factory Camaro.

I say 'factory', because if you shoot enough power through this car...it's gonna hop. That's inevitable.......
You beat me to it. The half-shafts will drastically reduce hop. This feature was slipped in quietly and without fanfare, but that is a major bonus for us.

The 6.1 Chally does have an advantage in the rear dept though, stick cars get 3.91 gears. But put those in the Camaro and look out
The LS3 is not underrated. It can't be, it's an SAE Certified engine.

The 6.1 Hemi makes ~365 rwhp through it's 5 speed automatic. I haven't seen a 6 speed manual dyno yet, so I can't say how much they make at the wheels, but it's probably safe to assume it will make ~10 more rwhp than that. That engine MIGHT be underrated, or, it might be overrated. It's not SAE Certified, so there is no way of really knowing what it really makes. Based on chassis dyno results, I'd say it may be rated just fine.

The 426 HP LS3 Camaro should make ~375 rwhp through the manual and ~345ish rwhp the automatic and weigh about 150 lbs. lighter. Sounds like a very close race to me when matched up to against a properly driven manual or auto.

First off, let me just say that a dyno is a tuning tool. Some read high, some read low. What matters is the difference you see. That being said ...
Every 6.1 Hemi I have had on my chassis dyno has made low 300s. Every LS3 I have had on it has made strong mid 300s. As far as "SAE Ratings" ... I dont believe them, I have yet to see anything that actually makes what it is rated at (and I have an engine dyno as well and have dyno-ed numerous new engines).

As for the weight difference, My buddies AT SRT8 weighs 4210 w/o him in it and the Stick SS Camaro is 3860 (according to the spec sheet from Chevrolet) Not saying it is accurate as I havent weighed a Camaro yet, but ... you can see where I came up with the difference. Sorry, I exaggerated 50 lbs. 350 lb weight diff, NOT 400.

BTW ... what was the MPH in that 13.3 Chally run??? The MPH will tell you a lot.

That seems to be a quite common defense around here...I've been called the same more than once..simply because I wasn't acting completely submissive to the GM and/or Camaro supremacy.
