Thank god I joined the Marines lol, never will have to deal with jury duty! And if by some fluke I did get called, I'd just show up in my dress blues and claim that I knew no other law than that of the UCMJ

Forget trying to get outta' it. You oughta' be thinkin' on how ta' profit from such a windfall.
Wait till ya' hears from all da' parties involved before acceptin' any money for suborning da' jury. The defense team of lawyers will bring in other stake holders; if ya' stand aloof during their first bids, you can really clean up... Hah! Hah! Jus' kiddin'! You almost believed me didn't ya'? |

Call the jury clerk. I am in the same boat. I am being sent out of town for work. The clerk just said that I need to send an email to them. She told me that they are allowed to give you two weeks out of that time without having to defer to another time. I believe if you already had your vacation planned you can be excused for that time. The number for the jury clerk was on the back of the page you scanned for me. But I am in Alaska, who know's what the United States does. :P

I was summoned to "be available" at any time during a 1 month period. I served 1 full day on a case. When you go to the court, there will be a ton of other "potential Jurors" there. You along with all others will be given a juror number and asked general questions in the courtroom.
Here's the kicker: You will be afforded an opportunity to provide written reasons to the clerk why you can't serve during a specific time period. During that period, the court will not call you for potential jury duty.

There is an idea, write why you can't serve on a $100 bill and give it to the clerk.

Fill out the "request for excuse". Do you have any receipts for hotel rooms you reserved for your vacation? Any proof that you are going on vacation during those months? They will usually take your word for an excuse from jury duty. If you have proof you will definitely be excused.

I was called once and got picked to be on the jury of a murder trial.
I was there 3 days waiting for the rest of the jury to be picked. On the 4th day there was a bus outside the court waiting to take us to the scene, but then he took a plea bargan and we never got to go. What a waste of time... I hope next time I go that there is actually a trial.

Just tell them that you belong to the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas and you intend to bring and use a Bible for legal reference, that should get you excused.
