I sat in it and played with all the interior bits... only confirmed that I want the car.

Selling the first cars to enthusiasts @ MSRP is the easy sell. Selling the rest of the production run to regular everyday people @ MSRP is going to be a heck of a lot more difficult, especially if MSRP goes up. Just as an example, I saw an ad this weekend from a local Dodge dealership...ALL 2009 Dodge Challengers - $4k off MSRP - including SRT8 and RT models. Compare that to last year and the easy selling to the Mopar nuts of the SRT8 models at prices over MSRP. Those of us that don't buy into the pre-ordering will likely end up paying less for our cars due to incentives from GM and the dealers.
The challengers were advertised at $6,000 off MSRP in Detroit this past sunday!

Case in point...I was soooo ready to buy an 09 Challenger RT last week, Went to the local dealer, he hemmed and hawed about me test driving her off the show room floor. Long story short, I drove it...and was disappointed. Big, heavy...numb steering....what a let down.

I hope the Camaro is better, but I would not bet 40 k on it.

Stay rational folks...no way anyone should be paying even MSRP these days, but life is all about choices.

I will sit back, wait and see. Maybe next year I will buy one. Cheaper.
I test drove a G8-GT with 365 HP and the camaro is built on the same platform with 426 HP. The G8 was pretty fast and I know im not going to be disappointed in the Camaro.

Did anyone notice how it says 30 days. It's only 27 days until production starts. I guess this email was supposed to go out last month for the old production date of yesterday.

That's exactly my point. Challengers are deeply discounted in my area as well and to think over the summer dealers were trying to charge over MSRP to put in a "pre order" sounds very familiar.

People who just have to have it "now" really pay through the nose for things. A little patience goes a loooooong way. Dealers prey on folks buying based off their emotions rather than logic.

I'm just torn on what to do, order now or wait until later this year when there might be some on the lots for less than sticker. Then the question is how much, if any, will the prices go up. Will my negotiating just get me back at the pre-order prices.

I know the G8 had a pretty substantial increase from 2008 to 2009. I think the increase was over $1K. Now of course though there are rebates... Damn, what to do???

Dealers are still adding 5000 over msrp in southern california for the SRT8's.
I looked at one last saturday with a 5000 markup and told them they were crazy.

Yeah my emotions got the best of me. so much so that i went and had my car spec'd out. i am in a situation where i have to wait another year to actually buy the car. between whats going on with the economy and the rumors i keep hearing about all available incentives being available day one, i don't feel pressure to buy this second for fear of not getting a good deal on the car.

Order now, get the car October 1st or later, and IF there are incentives, you 'll get them, PLUS, the price guarantee regardsless of WHEN the car gets delivered, the pre-sold orders letters, prints, and special ordering code.

Once they've filled the pipeline, we'll be tripping over them in the dealer parking lots just like the Challenger SRT8.

Sure, I won't be the 1st to have one, but I just can't imagine ordering something that I haven't even test driven yet. I'm sure it's going to be a great car, but it just feels weird to buy a car without testing it first. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
