I kinda treat Camaro ownership like the kindred spirit of motorcyclists. I wave at all other riders, and also at all other Camaro owners. Or I'll flash my lights at them or honk. For the most part, most acknowledge, but some, they don't even smile or look, they are just stonefaced and do nothing. Bummer

It happens. You have a lot of people out there that think they are better than you. I have hard time looking at other people and acknowledging them myself because of my stupid cheesy PERMAGRIN.

I did get pissed once though when I was at Wendy's, the guy at the next table over didn't recognize that the we shared the same great taste in burgers!

The reality is that most of my driving takes place in heavier traffic that is a city and or on a freeway at 75mph with lots of traffic. I won't stop defensive driving and start oggling cars on the road just because it might make somebodies day better or give them the warm and fuzzies. Shit can go down real quick at 75mph and/or in heavy traffic where there are multiple lane streets with the numerous curbside entrances and exits....

If i want to admire and praise peoples rides I go to car shows and cruise-ins. If your ride is dirty, I am certain there would never be any sort of praise or recognition heaped on your car by me. Yeah, I am that guy...
The truth is that my name is Billy Badass and it makes me totally uncool to wave at people or be pleasant in general. I have a reputation to uphold. I can't have people going around thinking I am nice guy. Or maybe I am just an introvert...

I don't understand why everyone instantly assumes the worst from someone who doesn't wave back at you because you both drive the same car. There are so many reasons why people don't wave back, but it doesn't mean they're stuck up and think they're better than you. I used to either wave or flash the headlights at other camaros when they first came out and were a rare sight, but now they are everywhere. I kind of just got tired of doing it, but it's nothing against you personally. These cars just aren't really exclusive. I hold doors open and do all of the common courtesy things, but I just don't feel the need to wave at all of the camaros I see. If I see a really nice modded camaro at a light I might give a thumbs up or something, but I haven't really been in that situation yet. Also a lot of people may be too busy focusing on driving to even notice your wave from across the highway/street/wherever.

Basically I find that the waiving/acknowledgement about your car increases with exclusivity. Bikers all waive because they're bikers and they're different from all of the cars around. It's like a club. I've been in a bunch of mustangs and have never seen people waive. Same with corrollas/civics/almost any common car. The camaro is a common car, and within a few years will be everywhere just like the mustangs. I still love my car and love to look at other camaros even if they're stock so it's not that I don't "get it", it's just that they're everywhere.

Getting flipped off is one (pretty rude) thing, but I think all the people who are taking other drivers' not waving back as some kind of personal slight really ought to take it easy - personally, I see more haughty snobbery from the "how dare other Camaro drivers not acknowledge ME or not have the same religious devotion as a hardcore automotive enthusiast?" opinions here than I see from people who don't wave back for whatever reason. It's pretty arrogant to just assume people have a superiority complex just because of that.

+1

I wave sometimes but not always....

This thread comes up a lot lately maybe people will start to get it. Plus like I have said in the other threads sometimes they don't see you because of glare, they are busy dodging potholes, etc, etc.

To the OP. Flipping you off isn't cool though but those kind of people are out there too.

I think classic car guys have more mutual respect because the traditional rivalry has come to an appreciation for still having beautiful, old cars on the road. In time, there won't be nearly as many current pony cars on the street, and the drivers who kept them all these years will appreciate their counterparts more than they do today. Of course, if you sit down with a Dodge guy and talk about cars, he'll never concede that your Chevy is better. He'll still appreciate seeing a rival in his age range more than he'd like to see a newer version.

Im surprised i dont have waves from other Camaro owners.
When i had my Vette, all vette drivers waved and said hi to each other.
Over here, some vette owners still wave... but camaro owners seem stuck up.... Don't know why.... it kinda sucks.... Makes me wish i had my vette again =(

Wow I've never had anybody flipping me off! I've never had anything negative either! I always wave or flash my lights and 2 out of 3 times, I get a wave back or a flash of the halos. I've had an older guy in a new white vette tell me "nice ride". I even passed a 4th gen today and he waved back at me. People suck sometimes...but people are nice down here for the most part.

Not so. The Vette people have it down. Too bad the Camaro folks aren't that way.
