I hate to tell you this but: 1.. Ford WAS the only American car company with the cajones to stick it out without Gov't money, and 2: The new Mustang WILL generally beat a camaro in handling, acceleration and comfort, and at a lower price. Stying...no way.

I thought about getting a 5.0 when I was looking at the Camaro, I had a heavily modded 08 gt at the time, but the Camaro was just more appealing to me. It has more personality in my eyes, but as has been said they're both good cars and it's all about personal preference.

The whole gov. Assistance thing doesn't mean Shit to me nor does it affect me in any way. With that in mind I see it as another ignorant statement which has no bearing on either cars current performance or handling...

Do you let him be on top, too? Jeebus...like was said above...buy what you want, it is your money. If he will not be your friend for buying a Camaro, then he was never your friend to begin with.

Both are full fledged muscle cars, and both are built to do the same thing. Get what you want.

I agree that we all do win! I would have loved to get a mustang but the camaro fit me better for what i was looking for! I love how this thread even has a few stang owners on it as well! Its always nice to see what they think of this also. They are both beautiful cars and both really do come down to what your looking for.

This thread reminds me of my buddy at the chevy dealership, he is a major ford guy selling camaros.. ha ha. I give him credit for being able to get over his preference of car and find the benefits of whats in front of him.

I think the 2011 and specs of 2012 mustangs are impressive, but i would like to think that with the hp all these pony cars are now putting out it will be a push towards the overall picture of THE RETURN OF THE PONY CAR! I have ridden in my buddy's 2009 challenger and think that its a really sharp car.

Thats all opinion! Thanks for letting me put my .02 in!

I wouldn't worry about what your friend thinks. Do what makes you happy. Having owned both Mustangs and Camaros, the only thing I will say is that IMO the mustang is more of a drivers car. You feel like your part of the mustang where in each camaro I owned, you feel like your driving a car (the car doesn't feel like it is an extension of yourself).

And here is something to think about. Both Mustang and Camaro base models (we have both). Camaro has more standard features. Camaro is cheaper in price. Camaro rides better (handling). Regardless of the horsepower ratings; both pull about the same. Mustang has slightly better miles per gallon. Mustang has less interior room. I like two features Mustang has at the base model adjustable power steering (their's is electric) and the ability to program car speed limiter (great if you have kids who drive...you can limit top speed and volume on stereo).
Mustang's body is basically the same as the 2006 model and earlier...just updated facias (front and rear). They did put in a better v6/auto than the 2006 model. Just my opinion...first hand. 2012 Mustang and 2011 Camaro in the family.

I have owned an 05 GT, an 08 Bullitt, and a 2010 Roush. I presently own a 2011 SS. I don't own the Mustangs so that should be worth something.

What does it matter what he thinks?? I have a few mustang friends and we pick on each other from time to time but it's all in good fun. I didn't buy my car for anyone else but me and you shouldn't either. If you feel the need to defend a car to a friend, I would look for a new friend.

When Ford brought Mullaly(sp) in to head the company he saw what was coming and mortgaged the place down to the last stapler. A brilliant move it turns out. He turned all the assets in to cash to weather the storm. I think most of it has been paid back too. Boeing made a big mistake letting him go.

In the end we all win, because the muscle car wars are back and better than ever!

Had a 2011 Mustang (base) and found out the TRANS was made in CHINA. People were having some major issues with them. Didnt like the seats, headrest so unloaded it and bought the Camaro. Love the Camaro (base) 6spd. DID NOT LIKE THE FACT THAT THE TRANS WAS MADE IN CHINA. I try like hell to NOT buy anything from CHINA ........

A local Ford dealer had a Camaro and a Mustang facing each other on ramps for a display - for a day, someone bought the Camaro before the mustang.
My husband is a Ford fanboy and his first words when I drove my Camaro home were "Did you even look at a mustang?" I said "No, but hop in, lets go do that".
Even he had to admit, when parked side by side, the Camaro had it all over the Mustang.
