Its pretty easy to underestimate the Cobalt SS Turbo. As 09Cobalt said, its an economy car on steroids. I'd give it the advantage in every race against a stock V6 Camaro. Whats their 0-60, 5.5 ish?

Also, the reviews of the V6 Camaro's handling was on LT's that had better tires than the LS has.

Cobalt wins in races, but the Camaro wins in appeal!
I love the Cobalt as a performance car, but as something that looks good.... it is fugly!
It can be modded to look better than it does stock, but it will never compete with the Camaro in looks. The Camaro however can be modded and I am sure it can improve upon its performance by alot, but if you mod the Cobalt for performance...watch out!

All of the above referring to the Camaro V6's! Camaro SS a whole nother story!

Hey now, I wouldn't go so far as fugly . It looks as good or better than most of it's direct competition.

But without a doubt Camaro looks better.

The Cobalt will destroy it all day long.

My friend has a Cobalt SS last year they made them.He walked a 2000 Saleen S281 with three people in his Cobalt. And the Saleen had two tiny girls in it.And he did it with a exhaust and tune on his Cobalt. So keep the Cobalt and forget the Camaro unless your gonna buy the V8 LS3.JMO

If performance is your game, then I'd stick with the Cobalt SS. But, I do think the V6 Camaro is getting some pretty good Single and Twin Turbo kits that should help you out in the performance department if you decide to buy it!

A stock ss turbocharged is a mid-high 13 second car. It will pull the v6 camaro in any form of racing. The v6 camaro is a stylish cruiser, the ss cobalt is purpose built to be a performance per dollar bargain.

I'll agree that the Cobalt SS turbo is the quicker car forsure, but the Camaro V6 with a few basic bolt ons (intake, exhaust) can hit high 13s as well in cooler weather. Just take a look at the V6 sticky in the drag section. Now that the temps have dropped guys are hitting 13s and low 14s easy. Fastest so far with basic bolt ons is 13.7x. Not too shabby if you ask me. Mid 13s easily capable if the car wasn't such a porker. Theres a recent video of the mustang V6 with just a couple basic bolt ons and 4.10 gears hitting a 13.1.

once this turbo situation gets fixed out the camaro v6 can put out alot of power i know the cobalt ss tc can put out alot but thats with like 20psi so if u go off modding it you can get more power out of the camaro v6 than the ss cobalt with way less psi which will do less harm to the engine as well.

Not sure where you got 13.6 from, but Road and Track got "0–1320 ft (1/4 mile)
14.0 sec @ 101.8 mph"

for the 2008 Cobalt SS.

I haven't seen any numbers for the v6 Camaro except for official numbers from GM which are very likely conservative. It looks to me like they run the same 1/4 mile.
Road and track cant drive. Alot including myself have ran 13's countless times at over 102. My best run being 13.72 at 105 with a muffler delete. Which if anyone follows the cobalts they have a learn down and it will adjust boost accordingly to create 260hp all the time. Only way to cure that would be a tune. Yes I have a cobalt but besides looks the cobalt will out perform the v6 camaro in every way with equal drivers.

I am trading in my Cobalt for a V6 Camaro and I will be modding the piss out of it .. Not too many Cobalts are going to be more then 300 WHP so if being different and have a rare car is your thing keep the balt. Not too many 10 second cobalts around .. FWD is just such a crappy platform IMO trq steer Cobalts Clutch is a big POS and they COST A MILLION DOLLARS + take 8 hours to install..

Camaro ATW unless you are in the Snowbelt and FWD is a must like most midwesterners know how much a RWD car is in the snow and ice the cobalt has EXCELLENT traction control and is basically an Economy car on roids. I haven't lost to a majority of people who test me in the car so it's still FUN AS HELL - I can't believ the guy above states practicality as being a reason not to own a cobalt when it's FWD/32 MPG's 300 HP 340 Lbs trq tuned Cheaper on insurrance RPD .. TOO FUNNY

^ this feature can be had for the cobalts for around 600 bucks All the performance data you can handle. Displays just as much info as the NISSAN GTR but costs a few bucks ...
So you really have a cobalt? Doesnt sound like it. My car has no torque steer at 430whp, Just a tune form even an average tuner nets 300whp with a drop in filter. A clutch and lightweight flywheel only cost me 1000.00.

Cant look at boost pressure to tell which is better to be modded. The 2.0 needs 20+ psi out of its 30mm turbo to run good. Where as a 5.0 would only need 5psi to achieve the same power. Stock the cobalt pushes upwards of 18-19 psi if its hot out. Also the cobalt engine is built for boost and the camaro engine is not. People have made 500+ and 27 psi out of a 56mm turbo and it was fine. Tranny is a different story tho lol.

i could have sworn i read somewhere or someone told me that the 3.6l was built to handle FI though could be wrong though but im jus saying that the camaro engine is a good engine and doesnt need much boost to get alot of power out of it im not dissing the cobalt ss i actually like the car its a quick car im jus saying it jus needs alot of boost to get alot of power out

The reason that the PSI isn't a good measure to use is: the turbo housing on the Cobalt is very small and although it's putting out 20psi, it's not putting out that much cubic feet of air. Where as your typical AM turbo has a larger housing and vanes and will be putting out the same cubic feet of air at much lower psi. The advantage of the small turbo is they spool faster. So you really need to talk about CFM to make it apples to apples (at least if I understand what Cmiller is saying right).
