I used heat resistant Chevy Orange from Pep Boys, which is pretty close to IOM; just a bit lighter. That paint shines more and it's easier to work with; doesn't "run" as much as regular paint.

I have to try this Now.

I'm not sure if I will keep mine red or leave the dash panel silver .

Did you lose your Abl by painting it ?
I covered the area where the ABL shines with tape. So no, I did not lose it.
As for the phone... it's just a mount I bough that goes on the windshield... it's there for now, but it shakes a lot. I don't want to drill any hole anywhere, so like I've said... it's there for now till I think of something else.

Just be patient about it. Spend some time on the prep work. Do a nice sanding with 800 grit paper, wash it with hot water (wet sanding is another option); aply one coat of primer. Apply several light coats of paint at a time, with a good 10-15 minute dry time in between, so it doesn't run. Each time you let it dry, elevate it so you don't have dust from the spray settling on top of the paint. After you are done with the last coat, wait a good 30 minutes and apply the clear. Do the same with the clear, with 10-15 minutes dry time; but unlike the paint, apply a LOT of coats so you will have a nice glossy finish.

Got it. Every time I spray clear after paint it seems like it starts to lift or crack in areas. If I wait a few days to let the paint cure I don't have a problem. You didn't run into that I take it?

That's due to poor sanding or too much sanding. You want to sand just enough to eliminate the gloss look, but not too much to create grooves and cracks. Use a 400 grit paper, then smooth it out with an 800. You don't want to wait too long between coats either.

I like it!!! I have an IOM "SS" and I've been going back and forth on getting the dash & door pieces in IOM from GM parts house. I think its too much with the matching orange leather seats. But the trim gives the interior just the right amount of orange. I think I might just do it based on your pics
